#505 Fedora Council 2025 Hackfest
Closed: resolved 2 months ago by amoloney. Opened 6 months ago by jflory7.

Summary

Plan, organize, and execute our annual Council Hackfest in February 2025 in Spain

Background

Every year, the Fedora Council convenes for a week of in-person planning sessions, documentation writing, and other interactive activities to help us drive forward the 2028 Strategy and identify strategic areas of focus for the coming year. And we are at the time when we should begin planning it!

Per discussion from last year's hackfest, we want to try somewhere that is both cheaper and warmer than our previous two hackfests in Frankfurt and Amsterdam. To this end, Spain came out on our top list of countries as a place to host the hackfest, and I am working with @amoloney and @ffmancera on mapping out a plan for where and when we go.

However, the Council needs to plan now on dates, travel, and an agenda for hackfest. Let's kick it off with this discussion.

Details

The most important topic for the Council to collectively hack on is prepping our agenda. What topics do we still need to follow up on from 2024? Are there new, emerging areas of focus that we need to discuss? What do Council members want to get out of our week of in-person activities? This is the needed discussion.

Later on, we can start budgeting for travel and making plans to get people there together in-person. As always, we can provide assistance for travel to any Council member who is unable to find funding from another source.

Outcome

The Council convenes in-person for a week in February 2025 and makes notable advancements forward on our strategy and tactical plans as individual Council members.

I've created a topic on Fedora Discussion for this ticket.

Please keep this ticket focused. Discuss there, and record votes and decisions here. Thanks!

Update:

A hotel block has been secured by @jflory7 for attending council members and an email confirming arrival dates and # of nights has been sent.

The agenda and logistics of the meeting is being tracked in this spreadsheet, and initial topics will include:
