#508 Commercial usage of Fedora logo on upcoming Framework product accessory
Closed: moved to Fedora Forge by jflory7. Opened by nrpatel.

Hi, on an upcoming Framework product, we have a cosmetically customizable section that allows for decorative pieces to be purchased and attached by the end user. Our goal is to enable pieces that have logos of brands that resonate for our audiences. One of the brands we expect to resonate most would be Fedora. Our requested usage is placing the Fedora logo on a tile-like piece that would be attached to the device. These would be both selectable when ordering the device or individually purchasable afterwards.

This sounds great to me. I'm checking with our trademark lawyer about specific requirements, since this is a little different from anything we've done before. But in principle I am strongly +1.

@nrpatel Do you have a mock-up of what this would look like?

This is a very crude mockup, but you can get a sense of size next to an

I'm afraid that attachment didn't work -- with Pagure, you need to do it from the web UI, AFAIK.

@nrpatel I know that over seven months have passed here. We never saw the product accessory. Do you still want to move forward here? Otherwise, we will close the ticket and make it public for the record.

Apologies for the delayed response. You can see an example of the tile here: https://youtu.be/-lErGZZgUbY?t=46

+1. I approve of the requested use of the mark for commercial purposes on these tiles for Framework devices. We should take this as a ticket vote in the next Fedora Council meeting. I suspect @mattdm or @jspaleta may need to seek official legal counsel and approval?

@nrpatel Now that this is past released, any objections to making this ticket into a public note for the record? We generally track requests for official use of our trademark publicly for transparency.

For the benefit of the Council, see the attached screenshots below:

Screenshot from a tech review video showing a hand holding the customizable input module panel of a Framework Desktop. The panel has nine square tiles with different designs, such as a game controller, the word "SEGUE," a stylized Arch Linux logo, and a rainbow heart, demonstrating its modularity.

A close-up from a tech video review of the Framework Desktop, showcasing a customizable tile on its top panel displaying the old Fedora mark (stylized infinity "f" logo). Other tiles and a "Batch #1" label are also visible.

@jflory7 No concerns from my end on making it public.

This ticket is now public and triaged for the next Council meeting. However, because of our Flock contributor conference happening in two weeks, I expect it might be slightly longer for a final decision, i.e. mid to late June.

@amoloney Perhaps we could take this as a quick vote topic for our face-to-face Council meeting time the day before Flock.

Why not just vote async and approve it after a week?

(Also Flock is next week, not two weeks from now.)

@ngompa Red Hat Legal input on the usage of the mark is the key input we need to make a firm decision here. If I may be humble to speak on behalf of the Fedora Council, I have a difficult time imagining anyone being opposed to the principle of this trademark request.

But, FWIW, I am +1 – contingent on receiving input from Red Hat Legal on trademark usage.

Also, probably worth noting the screenshots show the old logo.

I think this is well within the Council's trademark responsibilities under https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/legal/trademarks/#_the_fedora_council. One of the friendly trademark lawyers at Red Hat would like to see the final mockup so they can give any further advice. We've generally had Design look at these things too.

Making sure the correct logo is used is one reason we have all this process. :)

+1 on the request, just double check that you use the updated logo.

@jspaleta Is this approved or blocked on talking to Red Hat trademark lawyers for confirmation?

IMPORTANT: This issue moved from Pagure to Forgejo

On Wednesday, 18 February 2026, the Fedora Council moved our issue tracker from Pagure.io to Fedora Forge, AKA Forgejo. Using the native Pagure importer tool in Forgejo, we imported git history and all public issues to a new Forgejo repository in the Council organization, forge.fedoraproject.org/council/tickets.

Please update any bookmarks or hyperlinks to the new location.

This specific ticket can be found on the new Forgejo issue tracker below:
