#519 Trademark approval request: Fedora Asahi Atomic Remix
Closed: resolved by siosm. Opened by siosm.

Similarly to the "Fedora Asahi Remix" name approval request (see: https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/tickets/issue/432), I would like to use the "Fedora Asahi Atomic Remix" name for the Fedora Atomic Desktop Bootable Container (bootc) images using the Asahi packages for Apple Silicon hardware support.

From what I've read of the linked issue, the concern was mainly that it did not follow the naming rules thus the exception request. If folks think that i should use another name then it's fine by me as well. I tried following the semantic logic that we established in https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/AtomicDesktops#Detailed_Description (see: https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/tickets/issue/361).

I've started work on that in https://github.com/fedora-asahi-atomic-remix/images (on GitHub for now, may be moved to Asahi's project infra or the new Fedora's infra once ready) but have not made any announcement, pending discussion here.

Thanks!

Isn't the current formula to the <distro> Atomic <variant> now? At least that's what we do for mainline Fedora. If that's the case, then Fedora Asahi Remix Atomic <variant> would fall under the existing approval (assuming the Asahi SIG is okay with releasing Atomic variants).

The format is Fedora Atomic (Fedora Sway Atomic).

So right now the options are:
- Fedora Silverblue Asahi Remix
- Fedora Asahi Silverblue Remix
- Fedora Asahi Remix Silverblue

or for desktops:
- Fedora Sway Atomic Asahi Remix
- Fedora Asahi Sway Atomic Remix
- Fedora Asahi Remix Sway Atomic

My preference goes to Fedora Silverblue Asahi Remix and Fedora Sway Atomic Asahi Remix as it's clearer that it's a variant of Fedora Silverblue / Fedora Sway Atomic, with Asahi Remix packages, just like the Atomic ones are a variant of the non Atomic ones.

And I've just realized that I've mixed the order in the global name compared to the variants names. I used Fedora Asahi Atomic Remix, where following the logic above it should be Fedora Atomic Desktops Asahi Remix.

Naming is hard

We use "Fedora Asahi Remix " / "Fedora Linux Asahi Remix " currently, and the fedora-asahi-remix-release package defines all variants this way, including the atomic ones.

OK, so that should be:
- Fedora Asahi Remix Atomic Desktops
- Fedora Asahi Remix Silverblue
- Fedora Asahi Remix Kinoite
- Fedora Asahi Remix Sway Atomic
- Fedora Asahi Remix Budgie Atomic

Yes, though we ask that only variants we offer have Atomic counterparts.

Yes, though we ask that only variants we offer have Atomic counterparts.

Works for me. i'll do only the GNOME / KDE / Server (called Base) ones

I've renamed everything to match the naming as discussed above:
- https://quay.io/organization/fedora-asahi-remix-atomic-desktops

I'll close this one as fixed but if anyone from the council wants to chime in feel free. I'll likely "announce" progress on this front next week / make it more public.

Thanks!
