#119 Could not load background script 'nscl/lib/sha256.js'.
Closed: Fixed by polcak. Opened by thomzane.

In response to JShelter 0.15.1 release, a user on Mastodon reported this:

Package is invalid. Details: 'Could not load background script 'nscl/lib/sha256.js'.'.

I asked for more information and this is what I received:

I am using Google Chrome Version 117.0.5938.62 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Debian 11 Debian 5.10.191-1 (2023-08-16) x86_64 GNU/Linux

I tried to install JShelter from the Chrome Web Store when I got the error.

It works with Firefox. But I tried a new clean Chrome profile and got the same error. I also tried Chromium and got the same error.

Here I am again on Arch Linux, Chromium Version 117.0.5938.62 (Official Build) Arch Linux (64-bit)

Same error. I guess this sha256 is supposed to be installed on the OS?

Hello,

This does not affect 0.15.1. This is the problem that 0.15.1 fixed. See https://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/js-shield/2023-09/msg00006.html. I now tested and Chrome Store offers 0.15.1 a it can be installed fine.

At the time of the Mastodon "JShelter0.15.1 is out now!" post, Chrome store still offered 0.15. Unfortunatelly, I did not know any way how to disable that version in Chrome store. This was a part of my Friday message:

"So right now Chrome store offers a broken version and we are waiting for Google to accept the fix.

Users in chromium-based browsers are advised not to update to 0.15 or go directly to 0.15.1."
