Hello we have a ticket aproved in latam for swag for the hole 2018 year, I wan to ask for a square stickers pack (similar to Ubuntu sticker pack) to be printed in 10 cm x 10 cm. This way the hole sticker pack fill fine in a DVD sleve.

This is my proposal, it have 3 fedora bubles, 5 small Fedora Bubles ( please note that this small sticker can be used to hide the Windows logo in most laptops keyboards  ), a fedora vertical loga and workstation and server ones.

sticker-pack-proposal.svg

@williamjmorenor is there a reason to not print these separately ?

@williamjmorenor is there a reason to not print these separately ?

@bex here in Nicaragua have been sheaper to prink blocks of stickers than individuals ones, but we order small amounts (around 100 units) and printers do not offer the service of cut out those small quantity of stickers, can be nice to know the price of the stickers pack versus the individual price of the stickers.

@williamjmorenor hey, a few things:

  • are you going to get the sticker sheet die cut? i have seen a lot of sticker sheets for fedora floating around that are not die cut and are of low quality - i would really prefer we not produce such items at all. it's better to have a single sticker than a sheet of non cut, DIY cut because inevitably they'll be cut by hand and be off or not look right.

  • the typefaces in the server and workstation logos aren't correct.

  • what is your budget? if i know what your budget is i can provide you with good suggestions on what direction to take here that is going to result in a quality product at the quantities needed.

@williamjmorenor just re-reading your comment above - cutting the stickers doesn't have so much to do with the quantity at all so it doesn't make sense the vendors don't offer that. likely they have pre-determined / standard dies for cutting - eg a sheet of squares or circles - and if you can get the specs for them they can cut with the dies they have. Basically - the vendors excuse makes no sense there.

for $200 at stickergiant.com you could get 250 square sticker sheets, 5"x5", with however many cuts needed for the design.

We can also order from companies like Sticker Mule that will ship to Nicaragua and have good print. I'd rather ship stickers to you in Nicaragua and have good quality (even at the cost of more $$) than have poor quality stickers or stickers that create a frustrating user experience.

LATAM has money for this and can ask for more if needed. We are not money constrained on stickers at this moment.

StickerMule quote:
100 5"x5" $175
200 5"x5" $276
300 5"x5" $367
500 5"x5" $535

specs
Customize the entire page and place stickers anywhere as long as they are at least 1" and spaced 0.25" apart.

(That would get you ~16 individual cut stickers per sheet for this size)

Firts than all thanks @bex and @duffy for take a moment to look at this ticket. there are a lot of comments that I will try answer here:

are you going to get the sticker sheet die cut?

  • Yes, we will like to get the stickers die cut, cut them by hand is a lost of time and you will never get a 100% presition cut.
  • Find a printer with good quality stickers have been always be a challenge for us here in latam, this is the reason because we are asking to get sticker for the hole year printed with higth quality, we thinks is better to get a durable sticker that local sticker that in a few months will lost the color.

the typefaces in the server and workstation logos aren't correct.

I will re check, it the type face is Monserrat, isn´t it?

what is your budget?

As @bex have said we have enought budget in latam to try to get 500 or more stickers sheets per country (I hope so). I am not sure if others countro}ies will ask for a different desing.

500 5"x5" $535

I think this is a nice price

Customize the entire page and place stickers anywhere as long as they are at least 1" and spaced 0.25" apart.

I will work with those specs.

@williamjmorenor you should be using the logos from the standard logo file. do you have the SVG? make sure you have all of the weights of Montserrat installed. The logos you have there are definitely not correct. Email logo@fedoraproject.org if you need the files

I have the svg file of the Fedora logo and a .SVG files with
WorkStation/Server/Atomic artwork, I will remove the copy of Montserrat
font than I got from Google Fonts and install this package:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/package/rpms/julietaula-montserrat-fonts/

I think this should fix the issue.

I don't like the quality that we get from local (third world) printing companies. Our first source of stickers has been what we can get from FUDCon and FLOCK. Then we turn to less that perfect stickers produced locally. Apparently, I did more damage that good. But that is not what this issue (ticket) is about. This issue is about getting high quality stickers.

Regarding the design, I will suggest that we make a smaller pack with fewer items. Like having more or less a 2.5"x 5" pack, but double the quantity of production. I think that rather to give 12 stickers together to one person, we can give 5 to more people. I like the pack as it is handy. Otherwise we have more work with handling and giving small stickers.

We have being talking about how to ship those stickers to Nicaragua. If they are sent by mail, there is the possibility that they not reach us. We will have to deal ourselves with custom and pay taxes. Last time, I expend about 20 working hours among 4 days to get a box out customs. It was more that a week.

Using a carrier like UPS, DHL or FedEx will get us a fee for clearing customs of $50 plus the taxes for importing goods. In which case there is no option to do ourselves the custom procedures. They take about two weeks starting when the package arrives to Managua. It will cost from $50 to $70 to ship a box from USA to Nicaragua, paid in advance by the person shipping.

Using a POBOX in USA from a forwarding agency will ensure that we get the stickers and part of the services is custom clearance for about $7. Time will be 1 working day from Miami to Managua and about 5 working days clearing customs. They charge $4 per pound (or the corresponding fraction)

In any of the above cases, taxes will be a fix $5 plus 25%. Tax figures are from the stickers for Fedora Woman Day, so they a accurate and recent.

@yn1v no damage done, lets just get some good quality stickers for you!

Following @yn1v idea this is a 5" x 2.5" pack with 6 stickers (all are at lest 1" with 0.25" spaces)

2.5x5-sticker-pack.svg.png

Even if the printer can only work with 5" x 5" sheets we can just duplicate the sitckers and cut the sheet in the meadle that should no be a big issue I think.

I made this based in the work of William. I have the svg file that I can upload if this is accepted.

@williamjmorenor the workstation font still isn't correct - can you upload your SVG and I can adjust it for you?

@williamjmorenor also, if you want smaller than 5"x5", you could do say 3"x3" or 4"x4" and get a better shape for fitting more stickers in; 5"x2.5" is a bit of a thin / awkward shape for getting a lot of stickers in?

This is the file:

2.5x5-sticker-pack.svg

Said that a 3x3 inches sitcker pack sound great, do you agree @yn1v ?

okay here's a 4"x4" version, was able to squeeze quite a bit more into it. I have converted all text to paths and there are cut lines in a separate layer in the SVG file. Please do not use either of these files for the printers - the color needs to be converted to CMYK. This is just a preview so you can take a look. Once you've approved the design I can convert to color and to a file format the printers can use.

mmh, if the one in the upper right corner is what we call case badge, then all the others are a bit tiny

@gnokii yep they are small; the case badge here is roughly 1"x0.8".... so they are all roughly 1" x 1". We are working with only a 4"x4" sheet.

5 x 2.5 is a bit bigger than 3 x 3. It seem that a square is better for arranging the stickers. My point was to use something smaller than 5x5 and produce more quantity. This last design looks great.

Yes please, and thank you a lot for your time and help.

@duffy can you please help us to know is there is any especificacion we must meet to print those stickers with stickermule? I mean they need the artwork in RBG mode or something similar? @bex need this info to order the stickers.

@williamjmorenor I'll produce a print ready file for you to send them. It needs to be vector & CMYK with cut lines. Can you please ensure I'm sent a copy of the proof for approval before production?

@williamjmorenor any updates on this?

Hello @duffy , @bex will setup the order, I will ping him in IRC to ask if
the order is in place.

ok i will keep this open until the proof is approved

@williamjmorenor @bex just checking in on this one. have you started the order process yet? happy to approve any proofs vendor can provide

@duffy I am expecting a proof request today on this. I will ping you when it comes in.

Sticker proof below. Per stickermule the size had to be increased to 6"x6" because "We had to increase your overall sticker sheet size to meet our size and space requirements for sticker sheets. This may have affected your price. You can find more information on these requirements here: https://www.stickermule.com/support/how-many-stickers-can-i-fit-on-a-sticker-sheet Let us know if you have any questions."

sticker-sheet.png

@bex i think i see why they did that - i had two 'keycap' stickers but they are less than an inch (keyboard keys are 0.5" or so) and they don't allow cuts that small so those two are blown up.

I'm OK with the changes if you're OK with the budget?

300 6"x6" $475
500 6"x6" $698

If not I can modify the design to get it down.

I've been requested to order 5000.

It sounds to me like we should consider deleting the two keycaps and finding an alternative way of producing those rather than have then produced to large to actually fit on a keycap.

Am I understanding this correctly?

We are fine to remove the keycaps from the stickers.

Thanks in advance.

@duffy can we get this reworked without the keycaps and at the proper sizing?

I am looking at a different vendor for the keycaps

@bex ask @eischmann I have done with him keycap stickers a while back ago

Thank you @gnokii I am working with @kmrstiko to see if we can re-run this for this purpose. She is getting me pricing from the vendor.

To try to speed this up, I will ask the vendor if they return to the original size and simply not die cut the keycaps.

Updated feedback on the sticker pack.

"We require a minimum size of 1" x 1" for any sticker and at least 0.25" of space between each sticker and the edges. We're unable to make your sticker sheet 4" x 4" without also removing the three rectangle stickers along the right side, as stand they are currently 0.8" width, the absolute furthest we can push our 1" size limit, at a smaller sheet size all the stickers will not fit while meeting our minimum size requirements. Would you be able to attach reformatted artwork to this email? Let us know if you have any questions."

Can anyone confirm that the version they sent out still has all the stickers at the right sizing?

@duffy @mleonova @williamjmorenor do we have capacity to get this updated?

I can work on this next week.

@bex I'll talk to you tomorrow about updating these.

@duffy I think I still need some help from you: I changed the sizes, so all would fit, got rid of keycaps, and now the sheet is 5x5". But I don't seem to be able to export a pdf or create a .sla file without losing half the artwork and clips. How did you do it?
Can you please help me out here?

2018-2-21-square-sticker_text-paths-5.svg

@bex just a curious question.

It is posible to get some keycaps with going out of budget or with a lot of
effor? They are not critical but maybe a good to have if posible item.

submitted for proofing

approving. I believe all elements of this ticket are now ordered.

It'd be great if we could get this artwork into some canonical artstore for future use.

I am colleting all the artwork of this round of swag production here:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Swag_latam/2018

I will update it to the latest version of each artwork for future reference
and reusability.

Big thanks from part of the [ very silent ] Fedora Latam to all than are
making this happen: @bex , @mleonova , @duffy and @searchsam

I feel like we probably have a more durable artwork repository. @duffy @mleonova can you advise where these will be stored for future reference/use?

I wonder if we could upload it to Files here.

@bex we've been through no less than 4 or 5 different systems and bc of the nature of the work we do and the size of the assets we generate they all eventually fall apart so we use the tickets on pagure as storage now.

@bex (that being said our standard / generic / reusable stuff is meant to be stored here: https://pagure.io/designassets/tree/master)

it'd be nicer to have a CMS / catalog based system tho...

Yes, this ticket can be closed.
