#751 Logic Model for Websites & Apps Team Revamp Objective Proposal
Closed: Fixed 3 years ago by riecatnor. Opened 3 years ago by riecatnor.

phenomenon

There is a merger/revival between two teams/groups going on currently. Fedora web apps (formerly with Fedora infra) & the Websites Team to become one new & improved team: Websites & Apps Team. To make this revival happen, a group of folks are working up a Fedora Objective Proposal. One piece of our Objective proposals is something called a logic model, which shows a direct path between: Inputs, Activities, Outputs, Outcomes & Impact. This task will be to update the logic model template with information for this Objective.

reason

To assist & support the new Websites & Apps initiative to become a success.

recommendation

This task will be to take the template provided and insert the new text, making only small and necessary changes to the design. The outcome should look similar to the example I will provide as well.

Can you please tell the changes that are to be made in the text so that my template can have the new suggested text. Thanks!

would love to work on this what changes are needed and any preference on design?

Hey folks! I forgot to add the hackmd document with the updated text. Here it is:

Hello, I'm Leena, I've begun my contribution to this task. Will be delivering the first prototype soon!
Can you assign this task to me? @riecatnor

Hi @riecatnor ! I too worked a little on this issue.
So far I came up with 2 modifications.
1) Changed the background color to white.
2) Kept the original design intact, adjusted the border thickness and made some changes in the font of the header texts in each column.

Do let me know if it works! Thankyou :)

Also, I have attached the svg file too. Anyone has any suggestions or changes, feel free to edit this :)

I'm sorry, my font size was too small to read. I realized it after posting the comment. I hope this one works.

Here are two of the designs I created.

The first one is a more safe design, which just updates the text without any other major changes.

In the second one, I've aligned all the text in neat little columnns so that each of the text fields corresponds to the others.

Let me know any feedback and changes that you want me to make!

Hello, i am olive and i am currently working on my contribution to this task.

Hey folks! Thanks for all the work here, I have one comment that applies to everyone working on this ticket :)
- The design should stay the same. Keep the subheadings, typefaces, etc. You can make alterations to the colors, and making adjustments to spacing as needed. Reminder from the description:

This task will be to take the template provided and insert the new text, making only small and necessary changes to the design. The outcome should look similar to the example I will provide as well.

Looking forward to the redesigns, thanks!

I redesigned it to make it close to the template design and gave spacing to the columns as needed. Please have a look over it and suggest improvements. Thanks!

Thank you @riecatnor for opening this ticket and all the submissions made here have been awesome so far.

I would go on expressing my views on each of the submissions in this comment.

  1. For @vanichitkara's submission

    1. At https://pagure.io/design/issue/raw/files/ccc7e98c87a286e7211dbff2852cf410c27958fb80eb5c3bd68839191d9eb8f7-The_Fedora_Project_-_Logic_Model_for_Community_Outreach_revamp_2021.svg
      1. Poor visibility and distinctiveness due to the fact that the foreground and background color ranges lie in a very close proximity.
      2. The necessary thick partition between the Outputs and the Outcomes section seems to have been overlooked here.
      3. There is inconsistency in text elements (for eg. in the Activities section, Mindshare has been spelled right but in Outputs section, it is specified as MindShare - which is incorrect)
      4. I would suggest adding 1:1 mapping between the points of Resources, Activities, Outputs and Outcomes in your next revision.
    2. At https://pagure.io/design/issue/raw/files/a89d1ca019493e9f76fae86279fb8e358456b4dec32dc6160655074c1dc3dcab-The_Fedora_Project_-_Logic_Model_for_Websites__Apps_Objective.png
      1. This is affected by the visibility issues just as the previous one is.
      2. The necessary thick partition between the Outputs and the Outcomes section seems to have been overlooked here.
      3. There is inconsistency in the padding in all the sections.
      4. I would suggest adding 1:1 mapping between the points of Resources, Activities, Outputs and Outcomes in your next revision.
    3. At https://pagure.io/design/issue/raw/files/9eab7011bae8219d61f810698b9e18a2b4ea84bb856a3f63f090aa986c4f3923-The_Fedora_Project_-_Logic_Model_for_Websites__Apps_Objective.png
      1. This one recovers from the visibility issues to a great extent as compared to the previous ones which I appreciate.
      2. The necessary thick partition between the Outputs and the Outcomes section seems to have been overlooked here.
      3. I observed that the width of the Outcomes section is comparatively lesser than that of the Activities section which gives about an inconsistent feel.
      4. I would suggest adding 1:1 mapping between the points of Resources, Activities, Outputs and Outcomes in your next revision.
  2. For @sunidhikashyap's submission

    1. At https://pagure.io/design/issue/raw/files/45c6ff847058029f0423fa222be7479ca1a8c94d38d805f6e383c3e7309b6ef1-model_1.jpg
      1. The visibility is compromised for the Activities, Outputs and Impact section so you would want to use a darker tone for those colors.
      2. The necessary thick partition between the Outputs and the Outcomes section seems to have been overlooked here.
      3. The spacing below the Mission and Vision subsections are not equal.
      4. I would suggest adding 1:1 mapping between the points of Resources, Activities, Outputs and Outcomes in your next revision.
    2. At https://pagure.io/design/issue/raw/files/27217543388ad3ea7030d6f5cd306bdcaec3726690519552bf7ad3badb91faad-model_2.jpg
      1. The visibility is compromised for the Activities, Outcome and Impact section so you would want to use a brighter tone for those colors.
      5. For me, the dark variant somehow ends up looking a lot more appealing than the bright ones, though both of these are good attempts!
  3. For @leena_harani's submission

    1. At https://pagure.io/design/issue/raw/files/37851c6d6cee54ffda5e799b253cd3d946a92907d099310943a1d3cad8309309-Fedora_Community_Outreach_Revamp_-_Copy.svg
      1. For words that span across multiple lines, the hyphen is oddly distanced away from the part of the word at the topside.
      2. The necessary thick partition between the Outputs and the Outcomes section seems to have been overlooked here.
      3. The textual contents are not evenly spread across the section areas although I appreciate the uniform padding from the left side.
      4. I would suggest the use of Comfortaa Sans with heavy font weight as centrally-aligned headers instead of IBM Plex Sans with regular font weight.
      5. I would suggest adding 1:1 mapping between the points of Resources, Activities, Outputs and Outcomes in your next revision.
    2. At https://pagure.io/design/issue/raw/files/5cb387f977975a6c27afb23b83b6f0fff55562dc427d0802bd96cd0e8d7c0288-Fedora_Community_Outreach_Revamp_Adjusted.svg
      1. You would want to address obscure spacings between words segments (The way I see it, the heavy font weight for IBM Plex Sans is emulated as the typeface is absent)
      2. The necessary thick partition between the Outputs and the Outcomes section seems to have been overlooked here.
      3. There are sheer inconsistencies in the use of content fonts (somewhere Comfortaa Sans and somewhere IBM Plex Sans) and their sizes vary as well.
      4. I appreciate the endeavour made to show the 1:1 mapping between points on Resources, Activities, Outputs and Outcomes.
      5. I would suggest the use of Comfortaa Sans with heavy font weight as centrally-aligned headers instead of IBM Plex Sans with regular font weight.
      6. I would suggest adding 1:1 mapping between the points of Resources, Activities, Outputs and Outcomes in your next revision.
  4. For @olive's submission

      1. I appreciate the plain attempt to the design and the paddings have been uniform for the contents sections.
      2. The necessary thick partition between the Outputs and the Outcomes section seems to have been overlooked here.
      3. I would suggest the use of Comfortaa Sans with heavy font weight as centrally-aligned headers instead of IBM Plex Sans with regular font weight.
      4. I would suggest adding 1:1 mapping between the points of Resources, Activities, Outputs and Outcomes in your next revision.
      5. I appreciate the calculated text-background contrast and accessibility simulation checks
    2. At https://pagure.io/design/issue/raw/files/000312b9725ea449bd910310d5fc06b0a9c91b074b190a35c3e29ca7ad02aeff-logic-medal-fedora_light.jpg

All these submissions have been great and I am looking forward to your next revisions!

Thank you for the constructive criticism @t0xic0der. I've used Montserrat for the content text and Comfortaa Sans Bold for the headings as you instructed (though I'm not sure if Comfortaa was the right pick for the font, as the Fedora Design Guidelines state that they're deprecating the use of it in headers). I've also fixed some of the spacing issues that occurred in the original and fixed the absent thick partition. Here's my redesign:

Fedora_Community_Outreach_Revamp_2nd_Draft.png

Hey folks-- please use the template for this. Do not build it from scratch :) If this ticket were "redesign logic model template" we could work on the design. It should look almost exactly like the template Ihave provided.

All that needs to be done is to take the text from the hackmd and put it into the template.
Make sure you have Montserrat & Open Sans downloaded before you open the source file.
You will need to use a piece of software that can manage SVGs

Thanks!

Hello my fedora contriber ,I will come up tomorrow with great design, I will do my best to reach the perfect design goal recommend by @riecatnor. I have understand the concept. I have almost completed design work.
See you soon

Hey folks, thanks for the continued work on this task! Comments below:

@vanichitkara I think some changes may have been inadvertently made. I can see the typeface is not the same, the lines from the graph are no longer all aligned, and the space around the entire graph is a bit tight. Maybe the export was incorrect?

Hi @dhairya15 I don't think subsections are necessary, though I think breaking up the lines might help the readability? It is going in the right direction, just a couple notes:
- Make sure to adjust the title text
- Make sure the text is the same size throughout

Hi @sunidhikashyap thanks for the revision, but please do use the template without removing the subtitles or adjusting the colors. Thanks!

Hi @olive this looks pretty good! A few small recommendations:
- The lines you are using seem pretty light, and varied in thickness. The line width in the template is good to use.
- Move "Mission" and "Vision" sections to be aligned at the top

Hi @leena_harani this is very close! A few small changes:
- Make sure to revise the title text
- the lines seem to vary in weight, the line width in the template is good to use

Thanks again!

Hi @riecatnor ! Sorry for overlooking the requirement of this task. I have done just as you said, simply changed and adjusted the text into the template. Do let me know if there remains any correction. Thanks :)

model_revised.png

I have revised the model again.
In model_revised_2 - did 1:1 mapping between the points
In model_revised_3 - Added tiny bullets to emphasize the beginning of each point

Edit : Please check the png files below this comment and ignore the ones here. I'm sorry for the inconvenience I caused here :(

@riecatnor I saved the file correctly and it is showing up as expected in Inkscape but the browser is rendering it in an incorrect way. Can you guide me through this and how to solve this problem? Thanks!

The_Fedora_Project_-_Logic_Model_for_Websites__Apps_Objective.svg

@vanichitkara Hey, I was having similar issues with my exported files. I solved it by selecting all the text and going to Path>Object to Path. You won't be able to edit the text anymore this way, so I recommend making a copy of the original text layer.

You can also just export a .png file and attach it for the preview.

Thank you so much @leena_harani for helping me out! Now the .svg file looks just as expected in the browser :)

Hello designers! Thanks for the persistent work on this :) comments below

@dhairya15 please upload PNGs so I can review the designs in the ticket. Thanks

@sunidhikashyap nice work! Thanks for providing options, I think model_revised_2 is looking great. A couple notes:
- Center "Impact" title text in the last column
- Please provide the source file

@vanichitkara glad you were able to get the file uploaded :) here are a couple notes for your next draft:
- What typeface are you using? If you are using the template it should be Montserrat
- There should be a bit more room around the entire graphic
- There are some alignment issues with the outermost lines. Make sure those are even

@leena_harani looking great! I really only have one small note. I see you edited the size of the titles. I don't mind their size in regards to the design overall, but now the title of the overall infographic is smaller than those titles. Adjust either the overall title or the smaller titles.

Hi @olive this looks good! I have two small notes:
- The horizontal line under "Mission" is the only one that is not in line, and my eye immediately goes there. Can you rework it to make the lines in the last column to match up with the horizontal lines in the other columns? I know these can be tough, good luck!
- Can you upload your next png at a higher resolution? It was too blurry to review through the ticket.
