There's an extension for this but it's not ported to GNOME 43 yet: https://github.com/lovasoa/gnome-keyboard-backlight-menu/issues/7

You can use the branch from https://github.com/lovasoa/gnome-keyboard-backlight-menu/pull/8

and install it via:

gnome-extensions pack
gnome-extensions install keyboard-backlight-menu@ophir.dev.shell-extension.zip

After that logout/login and enable the extension. It works fine for my on my MacBook Air M2.

This should be sort of fixed with Fedora Linux 39 / GNOME 45: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/merge_requests/2820
