#724 IoT Name Game
Closed: pushed 4 years ago by bcotton. Opened 5 years ago by bcotton.

Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):

You submitted a name suggestion for the IoT Edition

Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this badge is
awarded for certain kinds of activities:

1) What are those activities?

Submitting a proposal for the IoT Edition's name.

2) Who is doing them (are they packagers? translators? newcomers? veterans? users? sponsors?)

All community members

3) Why are they doing them (is this a means to a different end?)

To help give the IoT Edition a name

4) When do they do them (every day? once a year?)

Once

5) How do they do them (by talking in IRC? by running commands in the console? by using a web interface?)

Submitting a proposal on the wiki page (bcotton will award the badge manually)

Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?

🤷

Some different backgrounds:

Hi @kavishapd thanks for beginning work here! I am unsure either of these designs are bringing the concept across yet.

Let's take a look at the requirements to earn the badge: Submitting a proposal on the wiki page for Iot Edition official name. We can come up with some concepts based on that action/theme:
- panda sitting at a table writing (you have this already, and I think it could work with some improvements)
- Iot thematic designs (dots & lines)
- panda coming up with an idea
Ok, what about featuring a panda looking like it's thinking (hand on chin) and it has a thought bubble with the Iot dot/lines?? WDYT?

Side note, what you have done to the logo is against the guidelines, please take a look here, thanks!
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Logo/UsageGuidelines

Thanks for the review @riecatnor . Will show results asap.

@kavishapd cute! I like the second option (name_1) best. A couple ideas to help improve:
- The stroke around the though buble should be even all around
- Try giving the though bubble a white fill, and a grey stroke
- I actually like the random quality of the nodes and lines in your original draft, try dropping that in :)
- I think it might be nice to make the panda a bit bigger, maybe you can move it to one side and make it a bit bigger, and put the thought bubble on the other side

Thanks for your work :) I look forward to the next draft!

@kavishapd hello, doing a great job on this. Do you mind if We work together on this?

Hi @transcendence09 its great that you want to join. But we are almost finished here. I look forward to working together on another issue soon.☺

I pushed, @bcotton can you verify it work and close it ?

@misc I can see the badge, but cannot award it.

I will take a closer look, right now, the DC maintenance is causing some trouble (error 500) so I am waiting a bit.

Mhh, so I have added again the authorization, but I realize that I do not know how people are giving the badge. Do you have a error message or anything ?

No error messages, there's just no field for doing a manual award like with other badges I have permissions to.

ah ah, so it seems that if you give the wrong email or the wrong name name for a badge, it just say "yep, I have done it", without doing it, since it doesn't check the return code of the function:

https://github.com/fedora-infra/tahrir/blob/develop/tahrir/views.py#L374

So yeah, took me a while to figure what was wrong.

So now, it should work.

Tricky! It does work now. Thanks for the help.
