#10221 FAS group for the packaging committee
Closed: Fixed 3 years ago by kevin. Opened 3 years ago by tibbs.

Describe what you would like us to do:

It would be convenient to have a group in the account system for the packaging committee, as occasionally we need to manage access to a various resources and packages and it would be nice to manage one list . I don't know if there is a length limit but packaging-committee would be a useful name. fpc would probably be suboptimal as it is occasionally confused with the Free Pascal Compiler.

If group member management is self service, then I suppose it would be fine to just make me (tibbs) the admin and I'll add the rest of the folks (once I figure out how). Otherwise the membership list would be:

  • geppetto
  • limburgher
  • laxathom
  • tibbs
  • ignatenkobrain
  • decathorpe
  • churchyard
  • carlwgeorge
  • ngompa

When do you need this to be done by? (YYYY/MM/DD)

It's not urgent.

We have 2 types of groups:

  • tracking: This sort of group could be watching packages, but thats it.
  • pkgdb (yes, I know pkgdb is no more, but these types we have always called pkgdb): These groups can be primary contact on a package and people added to them get commit access to the package(s). They require a private mailing list (private since there may be some security bugs sent on packages).

I'm guessing you want a pkgdb group, just confirming?

Ah, hmm, I wasn't aware though I guess I should have been. Yeah, the idea is to grant access to packages but also to grant access to the packaging committee pagure repo (so we can just manage the permissions in one place). It's fine if that's not possible.

ok, so pkgdb group it is. :)

Hum, ok, there is already a packaging-committee group.

@mobrien or @nb did you already do this?

If it's a pkgdb group we also need a private list and the group added to pagure...

I suspect that the existing group has been around for ages, but I don't know what it might ever have been used for.

ok. I have:

created the packaging-committee@lists.fedoraproject.org list with tibbs as admin

added the packaging-committee group to src.fedoraproject.org

You need to:

  • create a bugzilla account named 'packaging-committee@lists.fedoraproject.org'. It should send the info to the list which you can moderate and intercept.
  • Add other members to the list / group.

This won't let you control the pagure repo sadly, you will have th seperately maintain the group there. Pagure has it's own groups and doesn't sync to fedora groups. ;(

Let us know if you run into any problems.
