#11149 Create a script for obtaining number of active users
Closed: Initiative Worthy by zlopez. Opened by zlopez.

Describe what you would like us to do:

It would be nice to have some statistics about active users in Fedora. We are currently looking at this kind of statistics:

For pagure.io and src.fedoraproject.org (separately):

  1. number of users who have logged in to the system at least 5 times in 90 days, per year (count "logged in" as "any activity")
  2. number of users who have created a PR or issue

For bugzilla:

  • number of distinct users who have filed an issue in Fedora or EPEL, by year.

When do you need this to be done by? (YYYY/MM/DD)

ASAP

I have the bugzilla numbers already, BTW.

And, actually, an adjustment to what the request here is. Rather than a 90 day window, it's per quarter. (Calendar months okay -- exact precision not necessary). What we need is: the count of unique user accounts who have done at least one of these things:

  1. Created a PR
  2. Created an issue.
  3. Logged in at least 5 times

... per quarter.

Thanks!

Also note that this is unrelated (or at least not directly related) to the ongoing "what is a contributor / how do we count contributions" discussion at https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/fedora-strategy-2028-what-is-a-contributor-what-is-a-contribution/46775 :)

Thanks for clarification @mattdm

Hey @mattdm,

Hope this helps https://github.com/t0xic0der/fuas#readme ;P

Also, as of 1629IST 13 March 2023, we have around 822 active users and around 99243 available users as found by the aforementioned script.

@t0xic0der Can we close this ticket? It seems that you already have some kind of statistics. I know that this ended up to be much more work than initially though, so closing it as Initiative worthy is probably the correct way.

@zlopez I have been in conversation with @amoloney and @mattdm regarding this to be converted into an initiative, in the wake of the requirements increasing. The proposal can be found here https://pagure.io/cpe/initiatives-proposal/issue/27 and the ARC investigation about the same is currently in progress.

Feel free to close this issue ticket.
