#4249 cleanup: remove Brazilian unused mailing lists
Closed: Fixed None Opened 10 years ago by filiperosset.

Hi guys,

There are two brazilian community mailing lists unused (br-devel and br-edu) and I'm requesting a clean up in these lists (migrate users, remove lists/contents).

We'd like to migrate all br-devel and br-edu users to the widely used br-users list.

Why?
There are no current traffic in these lists, it was used in the past but it's useless now.
There are no localized devel lists for other countries, developers should use the main -devel list.
Last message in br-edu, Dec, 2011. The list is dead.
Last message in br-devel, mid-2013, dead too.

If you agree with these changes, I'll send a message to each list (br-devel and br-edu) telling the users about the migration to br-users.

So, in general we don't like removing lists entirely as people sometimes point to or look at the archives, and sometimes a use for the list comes up later and we can just reactivate it.

What we have done in the past is just mark the lists as inactive and closed, and set moderation on them so no posts go through without owners approval.

This includes:

  • Disable showing list on site lists
  • Add "This list is currently closed for inactivity. Please e-mail admin@fedoraproject.org to have it re-enabled." to list description.
  • Set emerg moderation.

Is that acceptable for these two lists? Do you want to send an email to them indicated we are about to take this action?

Hi Kevin, thanks, it sounds good for me.[[BR]]
The emails were sent to warning the users about these changes in next days.[[BR]]
So you can go ahead and disable both lists.[[BR]]
Cheers, Filipe R.

ok, done. ;)

Let us know if you need anything further.

great, it's good enough, thank you.
