#304 Classroom session on Git: Git 101
Opened 2 months ago by ankursinha. Modified 11 hours ago

Hi folks,

I think it's time we did one of these again. I'm happy to instruct it (I've done them in the past for both Fedora and outside).

Things we need to figure out:

  • who: instructor @ankursinha , (a couple of helpers to help folks that get stuck would be useful)
  • when
  • where (what platform: video/text/?): @ankursinha can use their work zoom account, but we can also use jitsi or another one that we have access to. We've also streamed it to Youtube from Jitsi before IIRC.
  • registration: (do we need to limit it to a certain capacity to make it manageable?)
  • advertisement post on magazine + marketing channels

What else?

On when:

  • would a workday or weekend work better for attendees?
  • what time: I'm in the London timezone (which works for EMEA), but if we will need to choose if we want to target APAC or NA/LATAM, because a time that suits one won't suit the other.

The session can be recorded if we think that'll help.

I can do a work day as long as I don't have a work meeting at the same time, or a weekend if I'm not out.

I am often on Matrix on weekends, and we get a few new people dropping by, so weekends would be okay I think. During the week it is people in the tech industry online, and they probably don't need a git workshop.

Matrix has video-chat, I would prefer that than Zoom, which I have never used - no I dont want a Zoom-workshop ;)

Euro/ London afternoon is best time as we can pick up late night AU, Evening India, Afternoon Euro and Morning US.

We don't need registrations. Maybe an expression of interest in the magazine comments is enough. Just go ahead and plan it as you wish Ankur, if we wait or overthink it it will not happen.

Let's do this after flock, things are getting quite busy at the moment.

The curriculum can be based on one that the carpentries suggest, and we'll try to limit it to Fedora specific bits that will hopefully save us time.
