I was able to finally create my fedora account.
So I joined the mailing list and it sent the email to my new fedoraproject email. I don't seem to be able to log into thunderbird or any other client with that email address. I also didn't receive any emails when creating my fedora account about setting up a password for said email account. Any tips on accessing the email account?
it isn't a mailing account---there's no mailbox associated with it. It is only an alias. Any e-mails sent to it are forwarded to the e-mail address you've provided in FAS.

Also note that the alias is only activated once you've been added to at least one group in FAS.
You can configure your e-mail addresses for your mailing list (mailman) account in the web interface, for example:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/admin/accounts/per-address-preferences/
and
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/accounts/email/
Until your alias is activated, it's best to add your actual e-mail address there as the primary address.
