Hello @lori28167! Welcome to Fedora!
Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org. We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community shares tasks that need help.
These links are a good read to begin with. They tell you what the Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora: what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:
Next, when you're ready, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the community can get to know you? (Interests, skills, anything you wish to say about yourself really).
Finally, could you let us know how you learned about the Fedora project? Was it from a colleague, or social media, for example?
If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in touch! :)
In addition, could you provide some information to understand your requirements better? (You can write them in the introduction, or answer here if you feel more comfortable).
For example:
your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:
your background/skills, for example:
your experience in communication platforms:
how much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)?
Remember that this is not a job interview at all. This is just an icebreaker to help all your new friends get to know you quicker. The better we know you, the better we can support you in identifying Fedora activities that promise to be relevant for you.
Please write how much/whatever you wish. :).
Hello Fedora team!
I'm really excited to be here and to get involved in the Fedora community. Here's a bit about me:
About Me: I'm a student at a technical institute with a strong interest in technology, open source, and Linux. I enjoy tinkering with systems, building ROMs, and working on small projects — often using WSL2 and Linux distros like Fedora and Ubuntu.
My experience with FOSS: I'm relatively new to contributing directly to FOSS communities, but I've been a user of open-source software for several years. I’ve recently begun exploring how to give back — particularly through Fedora and possibly LineageOS-related projects.
Skills and Interests:
Operating Systems: I use Fedora Linux and other distros regularly (in VMs or dual-boot).
CLI: Comfortable with command-line tools, shell scripting, Git, and basic sysadmin tasks.
Development: I have some experience with Python, Java, Bash, and Android custom ROM development.
Security: I'm very interested in cybersecurity, penetration testing (especially BLE devices), and privacy.
Media: I also experiment with audio editing, podcast tools, and music production.
Communication:
I've used mailing lists before, but not extensively — I'm looking forward to learning more.
Preferred platforms: Matrix and Discord, but I’m comfortable adapting.
I can dedicate around 3-6 hours a week to Fedora activities for now.
Goals with Fedora: I'd love to contribute to Fedora in any way I can — possibly with packaging, testing, user support, or security-related tasks. I'm also interested in growing as a contributor and learning from more experienced community members.
How I found Fedora: I've known about Fedora for a while through forums and YouTube channels, but I became more curious after trying it in a VM and later installing it on hardware. Its balance of stability and freshness really drew me in.
I look forward to collaborating with you all!
Best regards, Lori (lori28167)

Hi @lori28167 : thanks for the introduction. It's great to meet you. Is there anything we can help you with?
I see that you've closed the ticket---does that mean you have already joined a team/started contributing? Otherwise, we can keep the ticket open and you can use it for notes/feedback/questions/whatever.
