Hello @impr0t! Welcome to Fedora!
Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org. We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community shares tasks that need help.
These links are a good read to begin with. They tell you what the Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora: what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:
Next, when you're ready, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the community can get to know you? (Interests, skills, anything you wish to say about yourself really).
Finally, could you let us know how you learned about the Fedora project? Was it from a colleague, or social media, for example?
If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in touch! :)
In addition, could you provide some information to understand your requirements better? (You can write them in the introduction, or answer here if you feel more comfortable).
For example:
your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:
your background/skills, for example:
your experience in communication platforms:
how much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)?
Remember that this is not a job interview at all. This is just an icebreaker to help all your new friends get to know you quicker. The better we know you, the better we can support you in identifying Fedora activities that promise to be relevant for you.
Please write how much/whatever you wish. :).
Q: Have you participated in FOSS before, or is this the first time? I've only briefly explored FOSS in the past. My primary work is with Windows, but I've always been attracted to Linux and FOSS work, I just haven't had the time or real motivation to jump in and start contributing.
Q: How do you imagine your place in a FOSS community? I think it would make sense to start small, and learn more about the community and possibly work on technical writing and small bugs.
Q: What's your background? I'm a software engineer by trade, but also found a love for coordination and management over the past years. I can be pretty outspoken about issued I care about, and really like pulling people together for a common purpose.
Q: What operating system do you use? I'm daily driving Fedora, but have tried many other distributions in the past. Fedora seems to work well for me.
Q: Non-software development skills? Leadership, organization, documentation and communication.
Q: Development related skills? Git, C#, Java/Javascript, Unit / Integration testing, containers, docker, etc. Interested in learning more about embedded and Rust / C++ / Go.
Q: Have you used mailing lists before? Hardly, it's a bit confusing but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.
Q: What is your preferred real time chat platform? Matrix, discord or IRC are all fine.
Q: Have you helped with moderating/administering forums? I tried doing it for a while, it's pretty exhausting, and not something I'm overall fond of.
Q: How much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)? 1-3 hours per week is really all I have to give at the moment. I want to start small and see if I can find something interesting to get involved in.

Absolutely loved your motivation of starting off with something interesting and something small as that is how one could rightly stay consistent with contributing meaningfully! Judging from your inputs - I suppose Containers SIG (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Container_SIG), Go SIG (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/Go) and Rust SIG (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/Rust) might be a good starting point for you. Of course, do note that these are not assignments and you could totally start off from somewhere else, as long as you are able to derive the value out of the time that you spent with Fedora Project.
I would recommend joining the channels for these subprojects (or any other subteam that piques your interest) and listening in to start with. It is likely that you will not have something to chip towards to begin with, so just stick around and make some friends first. These folks would help you with things that you can help with and also, help you out whenever you get stuck. As always, message us in the Join SIG chat whenever you have questions or concerns (or just wanna chat).
