Hello @atinsharma24! Welcome to Fedora!
@atinsharma24
Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org. We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community shares tasks that need help.
These links are a good read to begin with. They tell you what the Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora: what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:
Next, when you're ready, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the community can get to know you? (Interests, skills, anything you wish to say about yourself really).
Finally, could you let us know how you learned about the Fedora project? Was it from a colleague, or social media, for example?
If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in touch! :)
In addition, could you provide some information to understand your requirements better? (You can write them in the introduction, or answer here if you feel more comfortable).
For example:
your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:
your background/skills, for example:
your experience in communication platforms:
how much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)?
Remember that this is not a job interview at all. This is just an icebreaker to help all your new friends get to know you quicker. The better we know you, the better we can support you in identifying Fedora activities that promise to be relevant for you.
Please write how much/whatever you wish. :).
Hello everyone,
Thank you for the warm welcome! Here’s a little more about me so you can get to know me better:
🧑💻 FOSS Experience
This is my first formal attempt at participating in a FOSS community, though I’ve been a user of open-source tools for several years now. I’ve always admired the openness, collaboration, and innovation of the FOSS ecosystem, and now I’m taking the step to actively contribute and be part of it.
I imagine my place in the FOSS community as a learner, contributor, and eventually someone who can help guide others, especially students and developers like me who want to get started but feel unsure where to begin.
🧠 Background / Skills
OS: I've been using Fedora KDE as my primary OS for 3+ years. I removed Windows shortly after installing Fedora and haven’t looked back. Software Development: I have experience with:
Web development: MERN stack, Spring Boot Cybersecurity basics and some machine learning DevOps exposure: Docker, Git, self-hosting, Caddy, NGINX Tools: Git, Bash, Caddy, Node.js, React, Python, Arduino
Projects I've worked on:
A custom FileBrowser + MERN app for self-hosted media management using an external SSD An RFID-based secure door lock simulation with Arduino and Python Self-hosting Nextcloud, Vaultwarden, Gitea with basic Linux hardening
💬 Communication Platforms
This is my first time actively using mailing lists. I prefer Matrix and sometimes use Telegram or Discord. I haven’t helped moderate forums yet but would love to take on such responsibilities in the future.
🕒 Volunteering Time
I can dedicate around 6–10 hours a week, sometimes more depending on my other commitments. I’m happy to start small and grow steadily as I become more familiar with Fedora's processes and tools.
Looking forward to learning from you all and contributing wherever I can!

Hi Atin,
How is it going? What can we help with?
Cheers,
