Hello @harshraj2717! Welcome to Fedora!
@harshraj2717
Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org. We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community shares tasks that need help.
These links are a good read to begin with. They tell you what the Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora: what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:
Next, when you're ready, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the community can get to know you? (Interests, skills, anything you wish to say about yourself really).
Finally, could you let us know how you learned about the Fedora project? Was it from a colleague, or social media, for example?
If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in touch! :)
In addition, could you provide some information to understand your requirements better? (You can write them in the introduction, or answer here if you feel more comfortable).
For example:
your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:
your background/skills, for example:
your experience in communication platforms:
how much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)?
Remember that this is not a job interview at all. This is just an icebreaker to help all your new friends get to know you quicker. The better we know you, the better we can support you in identifying Fedora activities that promise to be relevant for you.
Please write how much/whatever you wish. :).
Hey everyone ๐๐ป
I am Harsh, a software dev from India. I started using Fedora when Manjaro was giving me constant issues and I also wanted to try something new that had vanilla Gnome by default. It's been like 2-3 years since then I believe, and I have just stuck on Fedora since (recently changed from Gnome to Hyprland though).
Nowadays, I have some free time on me, and so I decided to try helping out the community.
In the past, I have worked on some web dev projects (I preferred backend), scripting & APIs in python too, and nowadays I am more into cpp projects (I write cpp and C# at work), learning a bit of rust on the side too. I am pretty familiar with the command line and git but not much with packaging programming languages or testing (I am open to and would really love to give some extra time and learn these though).
I am usually fascinated by a bit low level projects, or system software in general too. i am also open to exploring other projects if something catches my interest.
Apart from giving back to community, one of my main motives to join here is to expand my knowledge and understand how huge projects like Fedora work.
I can give like 6-8 hours per week.
I have gone through the welcome docs, but I am a bit confused on where to go after this introduction, or how to explore projects and teams that I might like, do help me out on this if you can ๐.
The best thimg to do is jump in to Matrix channels and start asking questio= ns=2E Keep looking around and find people you want to be involved with=2E Start little projects of your own=2E
You can join any Matrix channels you want and ask questions of anybody=2E = They are all quite friendly=2E Dont rush, keep probing until you find your area :)
