This package provides the ntpd systemd service, which is required for the Date & Time KCM's "Set time and date automatically" setting to work.

We currently preload chrony for this purpose, would it be possible to adapt the KCM to work with that?

Sure, can you file an upstream bug report asking for the KCM to be able to load and unload chronyd.service instead of ntpd.service?
