#16 #fedora-kde Matrix room
Closed: Fixed 4 years ago by ngompa. Opened 4 years ago by ngompa.

Matrix is increasingly becoming a popular way for people to communicate in open source projects, especially KDE (which has its own home server and most of its channels are native Matrix rooms bridged to IRC now). Many other Fedora IRC channels have been plumbed through to be proper Matrix rooms as well.

As a Matrix user myself, I would like to see us have that too. I believe @jflory7 can help us with getting this setup.

Hi! Sorry for the late follow-up on this.

So, admin rights were given to me in #fedora-kde:matrix.org. And there is regular activity there. :grinning: I can help on the Matrix side.

However, I need an IRC operator to authorize the bridge request. This involves being online IRC, with OP privilege in channel, and responding to a message from a bot within 5 minutes. So it is a very synchronous process.

Maybe it would help if I could give Matrix admin to someone else, and they could work with @rdieter to bridge the room. Thoughts?

@jflory7 I can do it. @conan_kudo:matrix.org MXID maps to Eighth_Doctor on Freenode.

I gave @ngompa admin rights on the Matrix room and shared instructions on how to plumb the room to IRC. @ngompa will need to coordinate with an IRC channel operator (@rdieter?) to make this work.

This is now implemented.
