I was browsing normally and suddenly KDE crashed. Black screen with cursor, no output, I could write stuff there. After some seconds SDDM appears and I try to log in but get thrown out. I repeat, the same.
startx works, so its a Wayland problem.
I use fish, but tried switching to bash first, same result.
entering startplasma-wayland give me this:
startplasma-wayland
>startkde Error: could not determine $DISPLAY. Error: Can not contacr kdeinit5! org.kde.startup: "kdeinit5_shutdown" () exited with code 255 startplasma-wayland: Shutting down... startplasmacompositor: Shutting down... startplasmacompositor: Done.
>kdeinit5 kdeinit5: Aborting. $DISPLAY is not set.
>$DISPLAY fish: The expanded Command was empty
>wayland-info failed to create display: No such file or directory
OS: Fedora Kinoite 37.20230321 (updated today in the X session) Laptop: Intel x64 with iGPU pretty old
Updates: XSession works pretty normal, VLC works again, but I cant set the display brightness. This is something with the display.
How can this even happen on Kinoite? Should I remove all overlays?
fedora:fedora/37/x86_64/kinoite Version: 37.20230322.0 (2023-03-22T00:55:02Z) BaseCommit: e04caa3380db6441a984e8ecee8bd9840c95ee33473b1df22937487db2c184c8 GPGSignature: Valid signature by ACB5EE4E831C74BB7C168D27F55AD3FB5323552A RemovedBasePackages: firefox firefox-langpacks 111.0-1.fc37 kwrite 22.12.3-1.fc37 LayeredPackages: android-tools cheat distrobox fail2ban fish gdb gnome-boxes hardened_malloc kate lm_sensors nextcloud-client pandoc perf perl-Image-ExifTool pip powertop qemu qemu-kvm R R-CoprManager rstudio-desktop selinux-policy-doc selinux-policy-sandbox stacer tlp unrar virt-manager waydroid LocalPackages: Elegant-KDE-Elarun-1.0.0-1.noarch Elegant-KDE-Galaxy-1.0.0-1.noarch Elegant-KDE-Neon1-1.0.0-1.noarch McSur-dark-1.0-1.noarch mullvad-vpn-2023.1-1.x86_64 opensnitch-1.5.2-1.x86_64 opensnitch-ui-1.5.2-1.noarch realvnc-vnc-server-6.11.0.47988-1.x86_64 sugar-candy-elarun-1.0.0-1.noarch sugar-candy-galaxy-1.0.0-1.noarch
Another unusual new bug: I cant update some Flatpaks and rpm-ostree as user (wheel group), I get
error: rpmostreed OS operation Upgrade not allowed for user
I also switched shell back to bash.
I removed many overlays, among them vnc-server which may cause issues as its X11-only
Does this happen with a newly created user?
Anyway...
Please, use our bugzilla to report issues. Thanks. :-)
