With Plasma 6 likely to move to a once-every-six-months release schedule, I just wanted some clarification on whether or not the KDE SIG plans to continue shipping major Plasma updates to older stable Fedora releases, or if the KDE SIG will no longer do this, meaning every Fedora release stays on one major Plasma version, like all the other desktop editions of Fedora.
@mxanthropocene yes we will do releases on older versions but we don't do releases ones with come with plasma 5. Because of too many changes we don't want to break older systems.
The intent is to maintain our policy regardless because the old Plasma version is no longer supported once the new one is available. What this does allow for us is ensuring every single Plasma release goes through a full Fedora release development cycle, which makes it much easier for us to ensure that the experience is a high quality one.
Metadata Update from @ngompa: - Issue close_status updated to: Fixed - Issue status updated to: Closed (was: Open)
This also means we will be continuing our policy of updating Plasma right after a Fedora release in EPEL 10, in case you were wondering.
