#456 Fedora 40 Kinoite install Kate issue
Closed: Fixed by knebergish. Opened by knebergish.

Hello

On the Fedora 40 Kinoite I can't update or install Kate application due to this error:

$ rpm-ostree install kate

  - cannot install both kate-libs-24.01.95-2.fc40.x86_64 from fedora and kate-libs-24.01.95-1.fc40.x86_64 from @System

Can someone please suggest, how it can be resolved, or where I need to fill another bugreport, if this is not an appropriate place?

Not entirely sure this will fix it, but in kate.spec:

-Requires: %{name}-libs = %{version}-%{release}
+Requires: %{name}-libs%{?_isa} = %{version}-%{release}

This is due to the fact that we haven't yet enabled the archive repository for F40 and that we are having build failures for F40 composes: https://pagure.io/releng/issue/11969

This should be resolved once we get a new compose.

For now, it's possible to manually download and install "kwrite-24.01.95-2" and "kate-libs-24.01.95-2" RPMs (https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=2404167), and then install Kate.

rpm-ostree override replace kate-libs-24.01.95-2.fc40.x86_64.rpm kwrite-24.01.95-2.fc40.x86_64.rpm --install kate

After the latest update I am able to install Kate just with usual rpm-ostree install kate. Looks like problems with kate-libs were solved.

Thank you all!

Unfortunately this issue had returned with Kate updates:

  • kate-libs-24.02.0-1.fc40.i686 from fedora does not belong to a distupgrade repository
  • package kate-24.02.0-1.fc40.x86_64 from fedora requires libkateprivate.so.24.02.0()(64bit), but none of the providers can be installed
  • cannot install both kate-libs-24.02.0-1.fc40.x86_64 from fedora and kate-libs-24.01.95-2.fc40.x86_64 from @System

Workaround is still the same: rpm-ostree override replace appropriate versions of Kate packages (kwrite, kate-libs).

This will be fixed once we enable the archive repo. This usually happens later in the cycle, closer to the beta or after the beta.

Resolved for me again after KDE Plasma 6.0 release update.
