#677 HELP WANTED: Python coder to improve our build automation scripts!
Opened by farchord. Modified

Hey you!

Yes, you!

Are you looking for work in a highly competitive and collaborative team full of members that are asking for nothing more than tackling new challenges and projects?

Well, if that is the case for you, then the KDE Plasma SiG is for you! Work for highly competitive pay ($0), social benefits (You do have to pay for them) all for working for the best team on the planet!

Okay, what is this about?

Fedora KDE uses some scripts (https://pagure.io/fedora-kde/kde-update-scripts) to make releases, but those scripts currently have ALOT of quirkiness. Some of the changes I would like to be applied are:

1- Update the update.py script to download sources more logically (IF we are downloading from the release FTP, it connects/disconnects many many times, I'd like to streamline this).

2- Any external processes launched by the scripts have no error handling. Right now, if any kind of error happens, the script just keeps going on. I would like it to retry a couple times before just failing. (When handling a big stack such as Gear, one package failing out of ~260 reaaaaallly sucks)

3- I'd like to make a script to help with the git merges and the commits to rawhide (We can use a one-liner bash script, but again -- no error correction there).

4- I would LOVE for the script to be able to smartly screen for new optional dependancies using copr builds. @marcdeop tried to do it, but it was rather flawed and hard to process. This one is optional though but it would be a REALLY nice to have.

There's a common theme there: Error correction. The Fedora backend sometimes... has issues. But if you are interested, let us know!
