Needs author
@mxanthropocene Hello, Merlin. Would you be interested in taking on this "What's new.." article for Fedora Linux 38 ?
Hello there, I will be interested in authoring this article. I might need some help though. Thanks
I can author this :)
(Edit: a draft is prepared and ready to go!)

I don't see a new item in WordPress for this yet. When you have a draft ready for review, please add it to a comment here. Thx
Oops, I forgot to actually put it on WordPress. š Here it is -

@mxanthropocene On first look your article looks good. We'll do a better review soon.
I did note one thing. The image you have at the top of the article uses a font that could really be larger. The image is used in several locations some of which scale it down so it will be harder to read. The image should be 1890px by 800 px, as well.
As the feature image, it should be added as such on the article edit page in WordPress. I can assist with that if you can resize it.
Or, if you can attach the background image to this ticket, I would be happy to modify it as necessary.
Thanks
Thanks for the feedback! I've updated it to be the correct resolution, have larger text, and set it properly as the featured image.
The background image is the dark version of Fedora Workstation 38's default background image, which can be found on the fedoradesign GitHub account.

Hi everyone! Thanks for your time on the article - it's looking great. The F38 release could be with us as soon as next week, so I've taken a closer look at the text. Below is my feedback, I'm happy to provide suggestions for changes, if that would help.
The quick settings paragraph feels like a bit of a jumble:
The screenshots are different aspect ratios and the background apps one doesn't show much context.
The core applications section is a bullet list without an introduction. It would be less jarring if it had an introduction. :)
Third party repositories: it would be good to mention that the unfiltered Flathub replaces the previous filtered version
Under the hood:
I wouldn't usually propose changes so quickly, but we're short on time befor the F38 release. Here are the changes I'd make:
all
GNOME 44 features subtle tweaks and revamps all throughout
More details about can be found in the GNOME 44 release notes.
GTK 4.10, the latest version of the toolkit most of the included GNOME applications are built on, introduces a revamped file chooser with an icon view and image previews.
File chooser
For GNOME 44 there have been a number of improvements to the Quick Settings menu that was introduced in the previous release, GNOME 43. The new version includes a new Bluetooth menu, which introduces the ability to quickly connect and disconnect known Bluetooth devices. Additional information is also included in each quick settings button, thanks to new subtitles. Finally, a new background apps feature lists Flatpak apps which are running without a visible window.
GNOME's core applications have received significant improvements in the new version:
In Files, there is now an option to expand folders in the list view.
Contacts has seen design tweaks
In Contacts, you can now share a contact through a QR code, making it super easy to share a contact from your desktop to your phone!
Keyboard navigation of search results works in Maps again!
Fedora's third-party repositories feature makes it easy to enable a selection of additional software repos. Previous versions included a filtered version of Flathub, which included a small number of apps. For Fedora 38, this filtered version of Flathub has been replaced with a full, unfiltered version. This means that the third party repos now provide full access to all of Flathub, with the click of a button.
The third party repos still need to be manually enabled, and individual repositories can be disabled from the GNOME Software settings. If you want to hide proprietary apps from showing up in your search results, you can also do that in GNOME Softwareās preferences menu.
Under-the-hood changes throughout Fedora Linux 38
Under the hood changes throughout Fedora Linux 38
The latest Linux kernel, version 6.2, brings extended hardware support, bug fixes and performance improvements.
The systemd unit shutdown timer has been reduced to 45 seconds, down from 2 minutes, making shutdown faster in most cases when services misbehave. To make debugging easier, services will now generate a core dump if they are force quit.
The length of time that system services can block shutdown has been reduced. This means that, if a service delays your machine from powering off, it will be much less disruptive than in the past.
Fedora's software will be easier to profile from Fedora 38, thanks to changes in its default build configuration. It is hoped that this will result in performance improvements in future versions.

@mxanthropocene WIll it be possible for you to make the changes Allan Day has suggested in time for the planned release date of 18 April? He has provided a complete modified version of the article so that should help.
It's a little short notice so if this isn't possible let us know as soon as you can and the editors will take care of it.
Thanks.

@mxanthropocene I've made changes based on the recommendations. I'm a belt and suspenders type and wanted to get this article ready early to allow further review.
Thanks for all your effort. It is truly appreciated.
Thanks @mxanthropocene and @rlengland ! I have some updated images here - one for the banner with slightly nicer text, and two screenshots which are a better size than the current ones.

I can do the substitution @aday but I'm concerned that the feature image text is rather small (from the zip file) Some of the "venues" where this will be viewed will have a smaller size and the text will be difficult to read.
If you can provide the svg of the dark image (my choice) I can modify it.
Sorry Iāve been away a bit, university and other IRL stuff got in the way so I completely forgot to come back here š
Thanks for the feedback @aday and editing it in @rlengland !! Hereās to another great Fedora release! š»
The 'source' is a Blender project, not an SVG. Here's a variant with enlarged text that works better as a thumbnail (but a little less so as a fullsize splash, with that Makemylogobiggerā¢ feel).

Published in current state so that GNOME Software would be happy. Editors can continue to make refinements as they wish
Feature image was modified. I don't believe any further mods are required. Thank you @jimmac, for the image and @bcotton for pushing it to publication
The post looks great! Thanks everyone, especially @mxanthropocene !
