Metadata Update from @rlengland:
- Issue assigned to mattdm

Hi @rlengland and @mattdm,

Is the planned publish date (12th March 2024) still feasible? With just a few hours to go, I assume this is of utmost priority. Could I be assigned to work on the design?

Tagging @jflory7 and @joseph for visibility.

Thank you!

@obazeeconsole It appears the Beta Release Announcement date has been moved to 19 March (back one week) according to the release schedule
I will change the publish date on this ticket since the 11th isn't going to happen

I assume @mattdm @jflory7 and @joseph will concur.

Thanks for the update; I appreciate it. I look forward to contributing my quota to the success of this task once given the go-ahead.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Hi @rlengland, I guess the image and graphics for this issue haven't been claimed yet. If so, can I be assigned to work on it? I'd also be grateful if its requirements were shared.

@obazeeconsole The ticket will stay assigned to @mattdm since he will write it, but I've made you the "image-editor"

Examples of previous Beta releases can be found in the Magazine "archive" here:
https://fedoramagazine.org/?s=beta
It uses the same background that was used for the "What's New" article but with the text reading "Fedora Linux 40 Beta" overlaid.
We use the same background for the article announcing the final release using "Fedora LInux 40" (just dropping the "Beta" part).
Again, same dimensions as the "What's New" article and don't worry about adding it to the repo. Just attach it to this ticket as before.

Alright, noted. I'll be on it.๐Ÿ‘

Hi @rlengland, I created two image variants just in case we'd like to add some creative flair. Whichever one the team decides to go with is fine.

Good job. Thank you.

@obazeeconsole @rlengland Sorry to interrupt, but the featured image does not comply with the Fedora Brand Guidelines (see booklet here). My main concern is with the typography:

Screenshot from Fedora Brand Guidelines booklet for Fedora typography page. It describes the use and shows different weights of the Open Sans font for body text and Montserrat font for headlines.

I would like the fonts to use the Fedora default fonts preferably, or one of the other accepted fonts for Fedora Magazine featured images.

It would also be nice to see the Fedora logo feature in this image. I am attaching a PNG version that could be used below:

2021 Fedora logo with horizontal text.

2021 Fedora logo, icon only.

@obazeeconsole
I would suggest revisiting your design and moving your text down and to the right, slightly and adding the Fedora log in the upper left corner. A small but readable version, perhaps. Either of the fonts suggested might work but I think the "drop capital" look you used on "40" is visually good.

I don't know if anyone introduced you to this page on the creation of Fedora Magazine feature images or not. It outlines a process for creating the images to conform to the "standard".

It appears that the F40 Beta release had been moved to 26 March according to
https://fedorapeople.org/groups/schedule/f-40/f-40-magazine-tasks.html
The published date for this article is changed accordingly.

@obazeeconsole Has an update been done on the image per the @jflory7 suggestions?

This article will need to be ready on 26 March, when @mattdm will have the text ready to go.

I apologize for the delay in response. This is noted; I'll get to it immediately.

Hi @rlengland and @jflory7, here's the adjusted image. Please feel free to let me know if there are any more changes to make. The theme text is Montserrat Bold, while the succeeding text is Montserrat Semi-Bold with the specified resolution of 1890x800.

So it looks like we have a cover image, but where is the article? The deadline is tomorrow!

You beat me to the punch, @glb. Schedule says "Project Lead"
https://fedorapeople.org/groups/schedule/f-40/f-40-fpl-tasks.html
I assigned this to @mattdm. Is that incorrect?

Hi @rlengland, could you please confirm which image has been approved so that I can forward it to the open ticket on https://gitlab.com/fedora/marketing/marketing-planning/-/issues/172

@obazeeconsole I believe the second image you attached is good. Thank you for your effort.
