#59 Proposed Test Day - StorageFiltering
Closed: Fixed None Opened 15 years ago by rhe.

A big new anaconda feature: [https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Anaconda/Features/StorageFiltering StorageFiltering]. I will create test cases about it if there are no existing ones. but still not sure when is the suitable date to test this feature. Any suggestion is welcomed. Thanks!

Some things I think might be good candidates to test during this event:
* BIOS RAID as possible - this includes different BIOS setups as well (stripped, mirrored etc..).
* Hardware RAID - same as above, in different scenarios (stripped, mirrored etc...)
* iSCSI - Both software, and BIOS iSCSI (aka iBFT).
* FCoE - I don't have hardware to validate this, but it might be worth reaching out to those who do have the hardware
* NFS/NBB - I don't believe the new UI allows for adding NFS/NBB root volumes, otherwise I would suggest including this.
* usability testing? - I'm not experienced here, but the design team could be consulted if this makes sense.

Thanks for your help advice, James. Very appreciate. :)

  • iSCSI - Both software, and BIOS iSCSI (aka iBFT).

I have not had the opportunity to do anything with iBFT, so this could be interesting (read: buggy). Regular iSCSI should work just fine.

  • FCoE - I don't have hardware to validate this, but it might be worth reaching out to those who do have the hardware

Likewise with FCoE, though I would love the opportunity to see testing on this. If it fails or doesn't act quite right I'd love to get some extra debugging info here.

  • NFS/NBB - I don't believe the new UI allows for adding NFS/NBB root volumes, otherwise I would suggest including this.

Correct - there's no UI for adding either of these.

  • usability testing? - I'm not experienced here, but the design team could be consulted if this makes sense.

Feel free to pull in Mo. Like you said in email, she did the design work on all of these screens so she should have some thoughts on how to best test them as well.

I'll add a test case or two:

  • Multipath - I have this here so I can give it a test.

  • Installs involving protected devices (hdiso, updates on USB key, etc.). - I know this is buggy (bug 568343) but if we're coming up with a test suite for this for all time, it needs to be on there.

  • Kickstart installs without ignoredisk, with interactive, etc.

I've updated the test cases section: [[BR]]
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2010-04-22_StorageFiltering#Test_Cases[[BR]]

It's far from done, so any advice is welcomed. clumens, please add your test cases there before this Thursday. Thanks!

Nice work Hurry!

Thank you James!

Done.

The network interface connected to FCoE switch is displayed automatically in 'Configure FCoE Parameters' screen after clicking 'Add Drive' button? I'm not sure about it.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant to say that I like your test case (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_Install_to_BIOS_RAID), and that we should replace the old one with your new test case. But either way works fine, just so there is little duplication. I'd like to consider your approach for F-14 to reduce the number of RAID tests needed in the matrix.

  • iSCSI - The [https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_Anaconda_ISCSI_No_Authentication QA:Testcase_Anaconda_ISCSI_No_Authentication] is available and taken from the previous iscsi test plan if you wish to use this. We can adapt it to include iBFT testing as well.
I've updated this case but I don't know how to configure iBFT at client, so I didn't describe it in details.

Thanks. I've made some additional updates, as well as created a test for the iSCSI boot support test (aka iBFT). I updated the test day wiki with the new test.

  • FCoE - Do we know how to identify whether you have FCoE capable hardware?

I don't have any test experience with FCoE. Maybe jwrdegoede can help (cc'd)?

I knew, But I was thinking not to delete the https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_Anaconda_partitioning_dmraid_rootfs since many pages(like installation test results pages) may have a link of it. Anyway I've moved it to QA:Testcase_Install_to_BIOS_RAID. Okay, we can discuss the RAID cases later.

I also added usability test of UI and feel free to modify it:

This test day is over, closing the ticket. Thanks for organizing it, rhe.

Wow thanks kparal. But I was told that a tester would have some storage devices available around May 1st, so even if this ticket was closed, future attendance is still highly welcomed. Thanks.
