#698 kernel 5.17 test week 3rd Apr to 9th Apr 2022
Closed: Fixed 2 years ago by sumantrom. Opened 2 years ago by jforbes.

Owner: Justin Forbes
Time Frame: 3rd Apr to 9th Apr
Features: Kernel 5.17 rebase

As discussed at Flock, we will start hosting test days for each major kernel rebase (approximately every 8-10 weeks). It was discussed that we should extend this to a test week, to allow time for more participants. They have been incredibly helpful so far. As the 5.17 kernel is now released, I would like to get a test week in before we push the rebase to stable releases. I will have ISOs for USB images so that users can test on bare metal or in VMs, and the kernel will be available in the stabilization repo for users who wish to install it on existing systems.

awesome!
@jforbes this is going to be the stable kernel F36 will ship with right?

I will prepare the bits!

Indeed it is, though due to the simpledrm change, the configs for F36 and F34/35 will be slightly different.

So, should we add a note that any user experience that should change and needs to tested otherwise?

Nope, For f34/35 users it should be the same., just F36 is different.

@jforbes The test week ended, any closing notes?

Sorry, it has been a busy week, so overall, the number of testers was way down, but I believe it to be due to unfortunate timing with regards to the F36 release cycle. We did get a number of bugs worked out working with F36 testers though, so still a success overall.

For F35 we had 200 tests from 59 testers, all x86_64. But we did have an additional 98 tests on F36, and the interactive feedback there was very helpful.

@jforbes Thanks for posting the stats as always. It's good to know more details,always.. when are we having the 5.18?

I just installed it on my system!

I expect June 5-11, but it is always possible that Linus could put out an rc8 and delay things a week.
