#731 [QA process improvement] [RFC] Current test day wiki can have only one test day ... but
Opened a year ago by sumantrom. Modified 7 months ago

Hey folks,

The way we have scaled the test day model, we now have a lot of test days happening every week. The current test day wiki page which is something a lot of old folks look out for can still just hold one link .. is there a wiki trick by which we can redirect people to multiple different places?

If they aforementioned can't be done, would it be sensible to create a wiki page with a table and have all the happening test days updated there? That way we can use that wiki page in the /TOPIC bit of the IRC channel as well. Needless to say, that will mean we need to maintain another wiki page ( given we are not editing the current anymore in that case and whatever current points to gets edited instead).

@adamwill @kparal et all!

The page in question is https://fedoraproject.org/w/index.php?title=Test_Day:Current&redirect=no

There isn't a trick, no. We could have current test day #1, current test day #2 etc. pages, of course, but that seems a bit...clunky.

We used to intentionally not schedule overlapping test days because of the risk of splitting people's attention. The idea of the test day program was kinda that a test day is an event for folks to focus on; having multiple ones going on at once kinda dilutes that. But if we're going to keep doing it, yeah, you will have to rethink the 'current test day' redirect one way or another.

yes... that's what I thought.

I get the gist, but as we increase the number of test day and the contributor strength, we need to ideally be able to scale the system. As we speak, I am talking two 3 different people about podman test day, container security testing and OKD test day all involving FCOS . We will also be adding these as a part of the Test day 2.0 initiative as Fedora 2025 Strategy , A11y and rpm-ostree varients will get its own space with a few new test days. Needless to say, Kionite and Fedora Asahi are currently budding and soon will be hosting their own test days.

@kparal do you have anything on the top of your mind for this?

Sorry for a late reply. Honestly, with no offense intended, I had to make the last few adjustments to the Current Test Day redirect myself (and often late), because you probably forgot, Sumantro 🙂 So I don't think having yet another wiki page to maintain is the way to go.

If we want to have overlapping test days (weeks), let's drop the redirect page completely. Our Test Days page links to:
https://calendar.fedoraproject.org/list/QA/?subject=Test+Day

It's not very pretty, but at least it works automatically.

And yet another option is our QA Landing Page which is now live:
https://qa.fedoraproject.org/

That doesn't show past events, only current ones, and is somewhat prettier. If we need some adjustments, I'm sure @lbrabec will be happy to implement them.

So let's pick one or both these locations are link to them, instead of maintaining the wiki redirect, or yet another wiki page. Thoughts?
