#744 Create a Quality team group on Discussion
Opened 9 months ago by kparal. Modified 2 months ago

We can ask to have a Quality team created on Discussion, which would be synced from FAS. QA members could then have a "Quality Team" (or similar) title displayed next to their name, a QA flair icon, etc. I think it would be nice. Instructions are here:

Does anyone want to handle that?

I have requested for the same and I will be talking to infra for changing the fas group name as well.
Do we want to rename the repos as well? like fedora-quality instead of fedora-qa?

I think we should have first a team discussion and come up with a plan, decide what to rename or what the keep, and when. This is probably a good topic for our gathering on Flock, let's discuss it there.

FWIW, it's trivial to rename the group on Discourse after the fact, so we could go ahead now with @qa and a display name of Quality Team.

I looked briefly at IPA, and I don't see an alias functionality, but groups can be members of other groups. For example, "fedorabugs" is comprised of members of qa, docs, packager, and security-team (plus about 400 individual accounts). On the noggin/FAS side, this all gets flattened into one.

So, I think we could create a new fedora-quality or quality-team or whatever group, and then either

  1. make the new group a member of qa, or
  2. make qa a member of that, and move all user accounts to the new group.

Either way, both groups could be used. The first is less work, but the second is better for actually changing the name used in practice.

I'm not sure what happens if you make two groups both members of each other — does it flatten things, or explode the world? Probably the former, right?

I think we should start using fedora-quality now. I don't think anyone objects. I can start working with Infra and take on this change. This helps my life with communication with the community much easier. I, for one, want to see this one happening this release cycle.

@mattdm We already have #quality-team tag on Discussion. Should the group name have the same name (quality-team), or it doesn't matter? Is the group name used somehow (e.g. when tagging the whole group as @quality-team)?

In FAS, just using quality group name would probably make the most sense to me, but if it would be better to have the tag name and group name exactly the same on Discussion, then we should probably go for quality-team. Thoughts? (e.g. in regards to keeping some consistency with other teams on Discussion)

ping - is this still being worked on?
