#810 [ELN] headsup: new desktop background
Closed: Invalid 2 months ago by yselkowitz. Opened 2 months ago by yselkowitz.

Please be aware that, if everything works as designed, ELN desktop installs (e.g. Workstation or Server with GUI) should begin to have a desktop background image by default (instead of a solid color) very soon. This will of course break any "needles" for post-installation tests of such configs, should there be any.

The good news is that we don't plan on updating this background again until at least after RHEL 11 branching, necessary bug fixes aside.

Thanks for the heads-up. It shouldn't be too disruptive, because needles use match areas. background changes typically break only the background needles (duh) and a few KDE needles because of KDE's tiresome insistence on believing transparency effects are still cool. I don't think it'll be a big deal for ELN because I'm not sure we actually use any of those tests on ELN anyway, but I'll fix up anything that breaks.

Based on local testing, I think fedora-eln-backgrounds-1.2-1.eln148 will trigger this, which should land in the Fedora-eln-20250505.n.2 compose later today.

The change landed as expected. OpenQA is still green, so it looks like we're not testing desktop installs at all on ELN.
