Since plasma-pk-updates-0.3.2-7.fc34 , KDE no longer shows update notifications until you do something to dismiss them, they only appear for five seconds then disappear of their own accord. See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1358146 . This is a problem for desktop_notifications as it assumes it can just wait around for ten minutes then check if the notification is visible.

We need to deal with this somehow, but not sure what's the best way yet. Filing this ticket so I don't forget about it.

Should be resolved by this fix.
