#29 Fix smooth graphical boot and shutdown
Closed 6 years ago Opened 7 years ago by catanzaro.

In Fedora 25, we had a smooth graphical boot and shutdown experience, with no walls of console text displaying during boot or shutdown.

This regressed in F26 due to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1385432, an SELinux bug. It's still not fixed, and we're about to release F27.

I feel like this is just yet another manifestation of the perennial issue that SELinux is not being adequately maintained in Fedora. Until the Workstation WG gets involved and complains, such issues stick around for ages and accumulate a huge number of CCs before they get fixed. Unless Red Hat decides to devote more developers to fixing such issues (the ideal solution), or we decide to finally disable SELinux and move on, we're just going to have this discussion again and again in the future.

P.S. that bug report says its an F24 regression, but I never noticed the issue until F26. I don't know why.

Comments 78+ in that bug show that it's not clear it's even an SELinux bug. On a separate point, I for one am strongly against disabling SELinux regardless, and would oppose it in the WG. Furthermore, I don't think that would be a permissible change for the edition, given prior discussions with e.g. Council. Instead of filing this issue, I recommend you help track down the nature of the bug and follow up with developers in a collaborative way.

This seems to have fixed itself at some point. Closing.
