GNOME is planning to replace totem with https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/Incubator/showtime. We should package the new app and provide our feedback on its readiness to upstream.

Showtime has slipped to GNOME 49, so we have much more time to provide feedback on Showtime. I suggest we all install the Fedora package.

The RPM package from Fedora 41 repo seems to be missing app stream data. I wasn't able to find it in Software (there was Flathub Flatpak only) and had to fall back to command line.
fedora appstream data has probably not been regenerated yet.
We might want to block on this missing codecs issue.
We also need to change the mimeapps.list in the gnome-desktop3 package.
This change is tentatively approved for F43. We will implement in rawhide now. We can create a new issue report if we wish to reconsider before release, which might make sense if Showtime does not progress through the upstream incubation process as expected.
According to the latest "This Week in GNOME" blog, Showtime will be replacing Totem in GNOME 49. https://thisweek.gnome.org/posts/2025/05/twig-199/
