During the Inactive packagers policy check for user mgoodwin I got a reply from another user which claims mgoodwin passed away.
Is there a policy for such sad situations? Should we proceed with the Inactive packagers policy or do we want to make something more "aggressive", like remove the accounts from all groups and set it disabled?
I would want to keep externally-visible presence of the user. For example, if the user had a personal page on people.fedoraproject.org, so that it can remain as a reminder of the person. The disablement of the account should be done in a way that does not compromise that. But otherwise, I think we could treat such cases the same as somebody deleting their account. OTOH, maybe just following the inactive-packager policy is easiest. If we don't need a special procedure that'd save us some thinking.
I think we should just follow the usual inactive packagers policy. Absent proper Legal communication, we can't realistically know for sure if a person is deceased. (Mistakes or misunderstandings can happen, malicious actors could be involved, etc.)
I don't think there's any harm in moving slowly here. The worst case is that the person's estate might contact us with a Legal request to remove some of their content, to which we would oblige to the best of our capability.
Lastly, I'd like to extend my condolences to the family of @mgoodwin
Fine, I'll proceed with the inactive packager policy. I just wanted to be sure the right way to proceed. Feel free to close the ticket if this is all.
I think so. Thank you for reaching out.
