#3134 Change: Rename/Change Firefox desktop file
Closed: Accepted a year ago by tstellar. Opened a year ago by amoloney.

Recent Firefox desktop file (firefox.desktop) does not comply with DBus/Gnome search provider rules thus Firefox can't provide DBus Gnome search service.

We should change Firefox desktop file from firefox.desktop to org.mozilla.firefox.desktop.

Owners, do not implement this work until the FESCo vote has explicitly ended.
The Fedora Program Manager will create a tracking bug in Bugzilla for this Change, which is your indication to proceed.
See the FESCo ticket policy and the Changes policy for more information.

REMINDER: This ticket is for FESCo members to vote on the proposal. Further discussion should happen in the devel list thread linked above.

I think the nature of this Change is kind of broken, but I guess GNOME Shell can't be fixed, so...

+1

despite the ticket saying "Owners, do not implement this work until the FESCo vote has explicitly ended", this has in fact already been done, and caused several problems:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2255374

I still have the problem that my Firefox windows use the wrong icon, and clicking on links in any other app launches Epiphany, though @stransky says he can't reproduce.

+1

When reading the description of the change, I thought "that's a very small thing to file a change description for". Well, I didn't appreciate how hard the renaming of a file could be… Anyway, those are problems with the implementation, the idea in itself seems reasonable.

+1 (but yes, Firefox windows here are using the wrong icon in both gnome and kde)

After a week: APPROVED (+7, 0, 0)
