In Issue 3067 (https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/3067) FESCo approved changes in the name and number of kubernetes packages. I recently received user feedback that one change, eliminating a separate rpm for kubeadm (details below), is blocking specific use cases for deploying kubernetes on Fedora.
I would like to reverse that change and reinstitute the kubernetes-kubeadm rpm. This applies to kubernetes v1.29 and newer. v1.29 is available for F41 and rawhide. Older releases of kubernetes do not have these changes.
For the curious - kubeadm is an optional bootstrap client from the kubernetes team that can be used to initialize a kubernetes cluster and to add machines to an existing cluster. It is not required to install and use kubernetes but is highly recommenced.
Situations where a part of Change is not implemented happen quite often. In general, there is no need for a FESCo ticket in such cases, except where it has some significant impact on other Changes or the distro. In this case, it doesn't seem to be the case, and a partial rename is something that is completely within normal maintenance. So… thank you for the notification, please add a note in the Change page how the final naming is different, and I think we can close this ticket.
Thank you. I updated the Feedback section with the additional feedback and revised package naming.
FTR, this is the revision: https://fedoraproject.org/w/index.php?title=Changes%2FRestructureKubernetesPackages&type=revision&diff=701407&oldid=691675
I think we can close this here.
