#3277 Change: Third Party Legacy JDKs
Closed: Accepted 8 months ago by ngompa. Opened 8 months ago by amoloney.

Adjust java/java-devel provides/requires to multivendor world and
obsolete all non-system LTS JDKs (java-1.8.0-openjdk, java-11-openjdk,
java-17-openjdk in time of writing) by appropriate, properly
integrating, RPMs from Eclipse Adoptium repositories.

Owners, do not implement this work until the FESCo vote has explicitly ended.
The Fedora Program Manager will create a tracking bug in Bugzilla for this Change, which is your indication to proceed.
See the FESCo ticket policy and the Changes policy for more information.

REMINDER: This ticket is for FESCo members to vote on the proposal. Further discussion should happen in the devel list thread linked above.

I was a little bit conflicted here at the start. But looking at this Change as basically two separate Changes that just happen to be proposed together:

  • stop providing (some) alternative OpenJDK versions in Fedora repos
  • provide an easy way to install alternative OpenJDK versions from a third-party repo

I think both of these would be perfectly fine in isolation. So doing both at the same time is fine too, even though it might "look weird" (at least to me). I just hope the third-party repo integration will be done correctly to avoid issues.

so +1

Mixed feelings, but... yeah... +1

I'm 0 on this. I don't see a better option, but I don't like this very much either.

This is APPROVED (+4, 1, -0).
