Closed: Accepted 13 days ago by amoloney. Opened 2 months ago by amoloney.

Below is a list of the current F42 changes that have not reached 100% complete (bugzilla state = ON_QA), with additional information, where provided, on their current status:

System Wide

KTLS implementation for GnuTLS
Owners: @fkrenzel @dueno
Status: MODIFIED retargeted to f43
Latest Information: The change owner has done some initial testing and is reporting all going well, with the only exception being a new error message type that needs to be added to the code as a result of the rekey kTLS patch.

Systemd Security Hardening
Owner: @metherid
Status: NEW dropped
Latest Information: The change owner has not responded to any comments on the tracker bug in ~9 months on current status, and the work does not seem to have moved from the initial x3 PRs. Its looking unlikely that this change is being worked on anymore.

Unify bin and sbin
Owner: @zbyszek
Status: MODIFIED ON_QA
Latest Information: There was a build submitted to F42 stable repo, but there were a few build failures reported. A fix updating the pathways for iptables was merged and this might have helped.

Anaconda as native Wayland application
Owner: @jkonecny
Status: MODIFIED
Latest Information: Some items are still outstanding. Below is taken from the change owners latest comment on the bz:
'Everything is resolved from the Anaconda side. However, the localed keyboard switching is not resolved for:
- Workstation
- they accepted they want to have this implemented, however, they don't have capacity
- it was broken even before in Fedora, so I don't think it's blocking
- X11 based environments
- this should be on X11 spin maintainers but I agreed that I will help so I started the project which is unfortunately not packaged and used yet
- I want to ask for community help as I have hard to time get to this'

Setuptools 74+
Owner: @churchyard
Status: MODIFIED done
Latest Information: There are a very small amount of packages still failing to build with this new release of python-etup tools, but the majority of packages have been updated (approx 9/134 left).

Retire zbus v1
Owner: @decathorpe
Status: ASSIGNED done
Latest Information: There are x3 packages still affected, with PRs still open on each notifying maintainers of this change, and the change is non-blocking for releases with the contingency deadline set to final freeze.

Anaconda WebUI Partitioning
Owner: @jkonecny
Status: MODIFIED
Latest Information: This change had a community test week in November 2024, and has implemented the solution proposed and approved by FESCo and is/has been working with Fedora QA on integrating their upstream test suite to test the new UI.

RPMSuportForSystemdSysusers
Owner: @msekleta @zbyszek @pmatilai
Status: MODIFIED ON_QA
Latest Information: rpm's sysusers.d integration enabled in rawhide now as of rpm 4.20.0-8: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2025-9c37bb22bb

Golang 1.24
Owner: @alexsaezm
Status: ASSIGNED done

Tcl/Tk 9.0
Owner:
Status: ASSIGNED mostly done
Latest Information: The bodhi update adding compat Tcl/Tk packages and Tcl/Tk 9.0, it also contains builds for packages ported to Tcl/Tk 9.0: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2025-814b83576d was pushed. There are still a number of open bugs against this change, but the change owner has noted that the majority are build failures which will resolve once they are ported to Tck/Tk 9, or an explicit need for the Tcl/Tk 8.6 compat devel packages to be added to build. The contingency plan is beta freeze, and this change is not release blocking.

LLVM 20
Owner: @tstellar
Status: ASSIGNED in progress in line with the schedule
Latest Information: No update in the bz tracker, however there is a schedule outlined in the change page as LLVM always builds later than our schedule, and the contingecy deadline is Final Freeze. From the wiki:
Jan 31: Begin building LLVM 20.1.0-rc1 in COPR.
Feb 4: Fedora f42 branches created
Feb 11: Begin building LLVM 20.1.0-rc2 in COPR.
Feb 18: Fedora f42 beta freeze
Feb 25: Begin building LLVM 20.1.0-rc3 in Rawhide and f42 side-tags.
Feb 25-> Mar 11: Request Beta Freeze Exception and push 20.1.0-rc3 into f42 stable.

Owner: @fujiwara @supakeen
Status: MODIFIED retargeted to f43
Latest Information: Latest comment on the bz tracker indicates infra support was needed to enable this change. Status is unknown right now (by me, others might know more). This does not seem to be release blocking.

Add bpfman to Fedora

Setuptools 74+
Latest Information: There are a very small amount of packages still failing to build with this new release of python-setuptools, but the majority of packages have been updated (approx 9/134 left).

Many of them should be retired this week after being orphaned for 6+ weeks. I switched the bugzilla to ON_QA. If anything remains to be done in dependents, it's a bug to be fixed -- not a blocker for this change.

Add bpfman to Fedora
Owner: @dmellado @davetucker @tohojo
Status: MODIFIED
Latest Information: A build has been pushed to the F42 stable repo - FEDORA-2024-5814c2fd6d (bpfman-0.5.4-2.fc42).

Status: ASSIGNED
Latest Information: The bz tracker was only added to this change on 17-Feb, and I have reached out to the change owner via email to request a status and will update the bz once I hear back.

This is actively being worked on and will be enabled soon for Fedora CoreOS based on F42 (our branched and next streams).

Owner: @berrange
Status: MODIFIED
Latest Information: The bz tracker was only added to this change on 17-Feb, however the work was done by the change owner and the main packages are built in Koji (see bz for exact details on packages).

Only outstanding feature work is to get the systemd presets defined to start on boot, so should be ON_QA soon. See linked BZ for fedora-release.

Retire zbus v1
Owner: @decathorpe
Status: ASSIGNED
Latest Information: There are x3 packages still affected, with PRs still open on each notifying maintainers of this change, and the change is non-blocking for releases with the contingency deadline set to final freeze.

This change is implemented, only one of the three affected packages still needs an action taken - nmstate has an upstream PR for porting to zbus v5 which just needs to be reviewed, released, and built (or backported).

Deprecate gtk3-rs
Owner: @decathorpe
Status: MODIFIED
Latest Information: The change builds in this update https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2025-144124824e

I've set both changes to ON_QA.

Unify bin and sbin

We wrote a patch/merged/built chkconfig/alternatives to treat /bin, /usr/bin, /sbin, and /usr/sbin as equivalent (https://github.com/fedora-sysv/chkconfig/pull/145). This was the last unresolved issue.

RPMSuportForSystemdSysusers

There was a problem with rpm-ostree. It turns out it didn't have support for sysusers (https://github.com/coreos/rpm-ostree/issues/5333, https://gitlab.com/fedora/ostree/sig/-/issues/70, https://github.com/fedora-silverblue/issue-tracker/issues/636, https://github.com/coreos/rpm-ostree/pull/5334, https://github.com/coreos/rpm-ostree/pull/5336, https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/rpm-ostree/pull-request/67). The issue should be resolved now. But it primarily affected rawhide, not f42, the status of f42 was/is still OK.

@fale We had an action item for you to check Golang 1.24 status. Any updates?

@humaton We had an action item for you to check Anaconda as native Wayland application. Any updates?

Idris 2
Owner: @petersen

Unfortunately there has been no progress on this. But it's an purely additive change, so nothing for us to do.

Okey dokey, this is the list that I think we should discuss today:

  • Anaconda as native Wayland application (@jkonecny)
  • Anaconda WebUI Partitioning (@jkonecny)
  • Koji uses Red Hat Image Builder locally (@fujiwara)
  • Reduce the amount of "dontaudit" rules pertaining to unlabeled_t (@vmojzis @mmalik)
  • Koji uses Red Hat Image Builder locally (@fujiwara)

This change has been retargeted to Fedora 43, see the tracker ticket for motivation: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2342235, Aoife already changed the wiki page(s).

I'm going to submit the koji plugin a separate package, instead of building it into a pre-existing package. Still targeting about the same dates for the release of the package but it seems unwise to actually configure and start using this new package/koji plugin in Fedora's koji so close to final so let's do that shortly after the final of Fedora 42 :)

P.S: the owner of this change is @supakeen, not @fujiwara.

Hi, I wonder how is this tracked? Should I close the BZs it if it is done?

More information:

  • Anaconda as native Wayland application (@jkonecny)

This is already done, there is smaller subset of change which is currently last piece in BODHI but I wouldn't say it is blocking for the change. Everything else is merged months ago.
https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2025-a3429bf4d0

Could be closed right away as it is sub-change of
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/AnacondaWebUIforFedoraWorkstation
Everything is already delivered there.

@jkonecny when a Change is fully 'done' so far as you're concerned, you should set the bug status to ON_QA. I'm pretty sure the bug gets comments explaining this, and it's explained in the Change process doc - https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/program_management/changes_policy/ .

I see, I missed that. Fixing now.

We discussed this during today's meeting:

Ack, the change 'Reduce the amount of "dontaudit" rules pertaining to unlabeled_t' has now been updated to F43.

Is there anything left in here? It seems like we've gone through all the F42 changes now...

Let's discuss this during today's meeting to make sure we haven't missed anything.

We discussed this topic during today's meeting.

AGREED: The Idris 2 Change Proposal is re-targeted at Fedora 43, but the package can still land in Fedora 42 as a normal "newpackage" update at any time. (+7, 1, -0)

All other previously-incomplete Changes for Fedora 42 are either complete, testable, or in-progress.

@amoloney please process the Idris 2 Change Proposal accordingly, and close this ticket when / if you agree that there's no more things to do here.
