#9072 Freeipa-client package not available in Debian Bullseye because of dependencies on freeipa-server
Closed: invalid by abbra. Opened by bitvijays.

Request for enhancement

Dear FreeIPA Team, Hope you are doing well. Thank you for maintaining an awesome product. FreeIPA helps us a lot to manage our environment.

Recently, we wanted to upgrade our linux servers from Debian Buster to Debian Bullseye. However, it seems that freeipa-client package hasn't made to the Bullseye Repo. Debian developers suggest that if freeipa-client can be made independent probably it might be easier for them to include it. Here's a link to the conversation

https://groups.google.com/g/linux.debian.devel/c/vz6_rFmzUq0?pli=1

We (the administrators) would really appreciate if the above could be worked together with Debian-admins and resolved together.

Issue

Unable to install freeipa-client on Debian Buster

Steps to Reproduce

Install freeipa-client on a fresh install of Debian Bullseye.

Actual behavior

Package not found

Expected behavior

freeipa-client present in the Debian Bullseye and able to be installed.

FreeIPA upstream development team is not involved in Debian packaging and cannot do anything there. All packaging information is maintained by the Debian package maintainer who, surely, would welcome any help.

As such, this bug is invalid for upstream tracker and I am closing it. Please work with Debian package maintainers directly.

This is already in the works. From irc.libera.chat:

[2021-12-15 09:47:25] in case anyone struggling with debian here; I've uploaded a client-only freeipa to unstable which should be backportable to bullseye.. experimental will carry the server build until the backport is done
