Right now there is no easy way for a client to tell what the version of the IPA server is. It would be great if the IPA version could be added to the Root DSE entry in DS. There is already something like this for the topology plugin:

"ipatopologypluginversion: 1.0"

Right now I'm working on a IPA-to-IPA migration tool and I need to know the version of a remote/isolated IPA server. While it's too late for this feature request to help me, it could be very helpful down the road...

I would also find it useful to have some version information like IPA version and os-release ID and VERSION_ID in cn=$FQDN,cn=masters,cn=ipa,cn=etc,$SUFFIX additionally to Root DSE. This would allow me to retrieve and check versions for all servers with a single query.
