#49 Matrix room request for Fedora Localization
Closed 2 years ago by kevin. Opened 2 years ago by peartown.

Please, create l10n room and bridge with #fedora-l10n IRC channel.

We've discussed this in #fedora-l10n and also on trans mail list.

I've tried to follow the proposed official policy and created private Fedora Localization Team, first. Will this be removed, once there is the official l10n room created? If it is to be "moved" from the fedora.im to the fedoraproject.org namespace, I'd like to point out that the ChanServ service has the Admin permissions, instead of Moderator (and I don't know how to - or rather who can - change it, I'm sorry...).

Sorry for the delay processing this.

So, we can just keep using the existing #I10n:fedora.im room, we can just change it's published address.

Can you invite/make admin in the #I10n:fedora.im room:

@kevin:fedoraproject.org
@nirik:matrix.scrye.com
@nb:fedora.im

I can then set the room published address to use :fedoraproject.org (but :fedora.im will still be there also) and bridge it to the irc channel and add it into the fedora space. :)

Let us know if you have any further questions or issues.

You are now invited.

My big concern is that I (wrongly) gave Admin permissions to the ChanServ service when creating the room. I can see that other rooms have ChanServ as a Moderator. I don't know if this can cause any troubles in the future. Also I don't know if there is anyone within Fedora who can change the permissions for ChanServ from Admin to Moderator.

If the permissions for ChanServ cannot be changed (lowered), I would prefer if the #l10n:fedora.im is deleted first and than #l10n:fedoraproject.org created. I think there is no need #l10n to exist in fedora.im.

Also #fedora-l10n in LiberaChat is not a registered channel.

Anyway, thank you for taking a care.

Sorry for the delay here. ;(

So, I don't think there's going to be any problem with the appservice having admin, and there's no way to change it. Once someone has admin in a room they always do in that room.

That said, we can drop the current room and make a new one at #l10n:fedoraproject.org if you prefer.

Also #fedora-l10n in LiberaChat is not a registered channel.

I've registered it now.

If you give the goahead we can make the new matrix room, bridge it and drop the old room. Sound good?

Ok, thank you that you will create the new one.

I think it isn't necessary for me be an admin of the room in the future, just for this initial couple of weeks. (Provided that possible admin matters in the future can be dealt with through your - or eg. Nick Bebut's? - admin accounts). Or through this repository/issues... or, whichever pagure or chat.fedoraproject.org 'admin group'...?

I will perhaps ask on our mail list if someone wants to be our admin, too. What would you recommend? To have beside you our own admin for the room, or leave the admin matters on 'general' fedora's admin group/accounts?

I would be happy if the l10n room in fedora.im is deleted, then. And instead to set up #l10n:fedora.im and #trans:fedora.im as local addresses.

Yep. They can. It would be good to make sure you are a moderator tho so you can act if someone comes along breaking the code of conduct. ;)

I think having a few moderators would be very good. People who are active and would watch the room at least from time to time.

Well, 'fedoraproject.org' is the 'official' server for rooms... but we can make the fedora.im one a alias. :)
Done. And bridged.

Can you take a look and confirm all is well? If so we can then drop the old :matrix.org room and point it to the new one.

Yes, please promote me to a moderator.

One small tiny thing. I have noticed the name of room is i(I)10n, but it should be l(L)10n.

As said before, we would be happy if following aliases can be set:
#l10n@fedora.im
#trans@fedora.im
#trans@fedoraproject.org

@nb could you tombstone the old room and point it to the new one? and/or show me how to do that?

Otherwise I think this is all done.

Last thing I would ask in this ticket: Can you please give the Moderator role/permissions to my @peartown:fedora.im account, instead of the libera.chat. I can't invite people from fedora.im (furthermore, I managed to lose the original login/nick in the libera.chat, so I lost Moderator at all).

ok. I think the old room is correctly closed and pointing to the new one.

Let us know if you need anything more!
