#298 New Packager Sponsor request
Closed: Fixed Opened by athoscr.

Hello,

I would like to become a packager sponsor. Currently, we do not have many active sponsors in Brazil and I do believe I would be able to prepare and bring new packagers to Fedora.

My reviews: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?component=Package%20Review&email1=athoscribeiro%40gmail.com&emailassigned_to1=1&emailtype1=substring&list_id=6657126&query_format=advanced

Packages I currently maintain: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/packager/athoscr/

In my opinion We have to make easy for people to Join Fedora and get Accepted, I support this initiative and I think we need more sponsors not only for packager group, We need more sponsors for AMBASSADORS too, because in LATAM AMBASSADOR group is going bankruptcy because there's no ACTIVE mentors.

I'd support this, but actually we have a rule that says that the prospective sponsor should have done 5 non-trivial reviews. In the linked list, I only see 4 (and I think 5 is too low, the complexity of packaging has grown since this rule was created, but that's a separate story). On the other hand, I like your reviews: you're obviously up to date with the packaging guidelines, things that should be have been noticed have been noticed, straight to the point, efficient. But if we have a rule, we should follow it. So I'm ±0, and I'd wait until more of those reviews come to fruition.

+1 from me. I actually see more than five good reviews in his list, and another helping hand in LATAM for workshops in FUDCons would be great.

+1 from me

Hmm,

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_sponsor_a_new_contributor#Becoming_a_Fedora_Package_Collection_Sponsor lists
* Have been members of the packager group for at least one release cycle (generally six months) so that they have seen the process of branching for a new release.

fas tells me:
User: athoscr, Name: Athos Ribeiro, email: athoscribeiro@gmail.com, Creation: 2016-09-29, IRC Nick: athos, Timezone: America/Sao_Paulo, Locale: en, GPG key ID: 76024834, Status: active
Approved Groups: fedorabugs packager fi-apprentice ambassadors cla_done cla_fpca

looking at the reviews, they seem to be very recent and contributors were all experienced packagers. Not much to show skills.

I'd -1 here, unless I'm significantly missing something.

Oh, thanks for the input, I forgot mentioning that I recently changed my FAS account name from ribeiro to athoscr, since it would be more coherent with names used in IRC, bugzilla, etc.

Yes, I recently decided I wanted to help with packaging in general, both reviewing and sponsoring new packages. There are reviews from packages from both experienced contributors and not that experienced ones as well: as I see, all packages need reviewing, no matter who prepared them and I was not considering the package to be good just because they came from experienced ppl, as reviews show.

I'd -1 here, unless I'm significantly missing something.

Ok, your other fas name is active since 2014.

The assessment of what's a trivial review and what's not, I can't really see non-trivial reviews.
Your reviews were ok, no question. But you benefited from quite experienced packagers proposing their work. Please come back, when you completed more and more complicated reviews, like reviews involving unbundling.

I am the sponsor of Athos, and agree that LATAM needs more representation.
I +1 for Athos as he is showing a lot of the interest and being very active.
I would keep watching and helping Athos in packaging and review issues.

I agree with pcpa, I was with athos at Fudcon, and I saw their interest and his good skills on packaging, also although he has a few time officialy packaging for Fedora, he had some years of experience in Brazil, working with RPM packaging for a company. so I think he will do a great job as sponsor.

Also, in Brazil there are a group of guys that are learning from athos and itamarjp, from my side, It would be worth it give him the opportunity of become in a sponsor.

+1 from me.

So it's been a week here, and I see 4 +1s and 1 -1 for a total of +3, which means this request is approved.

Use your powers for good!
