#324 Request to become a Fedora Package Sponsor
Closed: accepted Opened by lberk.

I'd like to apply to become a fedora package sponsor, specifically to increase my role within the fedora project and help the onramp of new contributors and packagers. Reviewing the guidelines specified in the fedoraproject wiki[1], I believe I meet the general rule of 'sufficient knowledge'. However, I've also met the criteria specified:

  • Maintain at least three packages.
    Currently I am a listed maintainer of 13 packages[2], though, more realistically, am more involved with 8 of those packages than the other 5. Specifically;
    rpms/pcp
    rpms/parfait
    rpms/si-units
    rpms/uom-systems
    rpms/uom-se
    rpms/uom-lib
    rpms/uom-parent
    rpms/pcp2pdf

  • Have done five high quality, nontrivial package reviews.
    Recently I've been tasked with adding Parfait to fedora. This included a number of BuildRequirements in the various unitsofmeasurement packages. I carefully reviewed each package, including paying close attention to the licensing[3], and getting multiple changes pushed upstream to become more compliant[4]. The various fedora-review's I've conducted are as follows;

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1429804
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1434744
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1434746
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1434749
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1434750

Years ago I also contributed a fedora-review to rnetclient[5]

  • Have been members of the packager group for at least one release cycle (generally six months) so that they have seen the process of branching for a new release.
    I've been part of the fedoraproject as a packager since July 17, 2012, where tibbs sponsored me for inclusion.

Thanks for your consideration, and please let me know if you have any further questions regarding my application.

Sent to packager-sponsors for feedback.

I'm a definite +1 here.

A review of Lukas' work looks good to me, and I have a strong positive reference from another developer who has worked with Lukas, so I'd give this
+1
as well.

It's been (almost) 7 days now and I see 3 +1s and 0 -1s so your request is approved!

Use your powers wisely.
