#455 Requesting sponsor
Closed: accepted by zbyszek. Opened by oturpe.

Rubygem-jekyll and its dependencies have been orphaned through this announcement. Coindicentally, just recently I had been trying to help with Jekyll version bump in pull request jekyll-rubygem#4. The work was abandoned because the (then-)maintainer expressed wish and intent to complete the update themself. Now that a new maintainer is needed and I am already involved, it would feel natural for me to take over.

Initially, I was planning to package yle-dl and gnomecast. Both efforts failed, or at least need further upstream work, due to ffmpeg dependency which is not included in Fedora due to patent issues. However, I am also a Jekyll user, so I would be very happy to contribute by maintaining Jekyll instead.

My résumé for Fedora packaging goes as follows:
1. Simple package version update: pychromecast#2
2. Fixes to AppStream metadata: gpodder#2
3. Packaging guidelines updates: packaging-committee#1041, packaging-committee#1046
4. Make tests run in Fedora build environment: upstream zim-desktop-wiki#1379 and Fedora Zim#2
5. Update to support new runtime (F34 Ruby 3.0): rubygem-jekyll#4, also dependency rubygem-tomlrb#1
6. Tools updates: rpkg#539, rpkg#540
7. New package documentation updates: packaging@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/BUTQRRRQ6WXOIZ2AJLFKDXPTDVTHWF23/

@oturpe thank you for the résumé. I think it is sufficient to add you to the packagers group, and I have now done that. User your powers wisely ;)

  1. New package documentation updates: packaging@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/BUTQRRRQ6WXOIZ2AJLFKDXPTDVTHWF23/

I think you might just as well edit the wiki. The docs require much more effort to maintain.
