Hello @voegelas,
please let us know if you already found a sponsor somewhere else. In
such case we can assign the correct person to this ticket and not
interfere with their process.

Feel free take this opportunity to also say a few words about
yourself. It is not mandatory so you don't have to, but it will help
us form a human connection.

Hi. I haven't found a sponser yet. My name is Andreas Vögele. I'm the upstream author of the Perl module's IP::Geolocation::MMDB and Alien::libmaxminddb. IP::Geolocation::MMDB is in many cases a drop-in replacement for the deprecated MaxMind::DB::Reader module. IP::Geolocation::MMDB does only depend on Perl and libmaxminddb at runtime. Due to its use of Alien::Build there are quite a few build dependencies, though.

My main motivation is to create RPM packages that can be easily installed without many dependencies. Currently, I build packages for myself with the Open Build Service, but I think that it would be useful to add both modules to Fedora. In the long run, SpamAssassin could use IP::Geolocation::MMDB as an alternative to MaxMind::DB::Reader.

Both IP::Geolocation::MMDB and Alien::libmaxminddb are stable. I plan to update both packages only if changes in Fedora, Perl or libmaxminddb require changes.

@voegelas I will sponsor you into the packager group. Feel free to reach out to me anytime if you need help with anything!

Thanks @defolos !
