Testing this is seems to be doing a text sorting due to us representing the issue id with as #<id>, do you know if there would be anyway to make the JS drop the # so that we can have a numeric ordering of the identifiers?

Hmm, I should have tested it with more issues.

So we need a natural sort,
one way is we can modify the list before sorting.

I will have a look into this.
