#10611 Unretire rpms/python-ssh2-python
Closed: Get back later by humaton. Opened by mhoyer.

  • Describe the issue

While ssh2-python project is releasing python wheels to PyPI, only x86_64 and aarch64 builds are available and to my knowledge the developers have no plans for adding more architectures.

I'm not sure how many python projects have ssh2-python as a dependency and from those, how many are supposed to run on anything other than x86_64, so it could be too much of an 'edge-case'.
There is also asyncssh module, which is noarch and only requires python-cryptography rpm as a dependency. Paramiko is still a bit painful to install on other archs.

Regardless, in case you'd want this package unretired, I'd be willing to take it and try to keep it up-to-date. Created Copr as PoC: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/mhoyer/python-ssh2-python/

  • If we cannot complete your request, what is the impact?

When installing ssh2-python module on alternate architectures like ppc64le or s390x, it will need to be built from source.

Hi @mhoyer, thank you for taking interest in this package. I checked with fasjson api and it seems you are in 0 groups https://fasjson.fedoraproject.org/v1/users/mhoyer/groups/

Were you in the packagers group before we migrated to the new authentication solution?

Hi @humaton, no, I weren't. This is all new to me really.

Ok, you need to be in the packagers group to be able to build packages in the fedora. Here is some info on how to get there: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Joining_the_Package_Maintainers/
