Depends on podman version: ideally, reproduce locally and then run podman --log-level debug to get more info.

That's indeed not too helpful. What version of podman, fedora and kernel is this being ran on?
Can you either strace the process when it gets stuck or even run strace podman exec...?

I'd say it's also very suspicous that it fails just like that with no output.

Interestingly enough in interactive shell mode you can get podman stuck even without the IO redirection after you run any command in the container in background:

-m seems to stop the process, and the stopped process will hold the lock preventing other podman processes to terminate.
what you could do is to prevent that to happen using "nohup":

I think that is expected. The Docker doesn't keep any lock as it delegates everything to the daemon

@bgoncalv yeah that seems to be a bug in beakerlib, if I restore set +m at the end of rlWatchdog function is seems to pass even with redirection. I will ask @dapos what he thinks about it.
