It would be useful to quantify exactly what is meant by 'include as an alternative', here. An alternative to be presented how? To be maintained by whom? To meet what quality requirements, to be checked by whom? How is all this to be arranged?
grub is getting replaced by something else instead. So this ticket is probably no longer relevant.
